friendship and forward
as I get older I realize that the concept of friendship has changed so very much from my youth. when you are young you define yourself by friendship. you seek approval and adapt to new surroundings with friends.
as an adult I can say that those highschool, and there after, friends are the ones with such a deep nostalgic impact on our lives. there have been countless days reminiscing with old friends of the joy and hijinks of our younger years. probably an equivalent amount of time reflecting as there ever was the actual days.
I'm such a different person now. my best friend is my wife. my friends David, nick, Pete, and john. I miss them and our times, but I don't even know what a day together would feel like anymore. not because of any lack of care on either side, but rather an alienation of time.
I'm very grateful for the memories I can carry on. and I hope my children get to experience those deep friendships as they move along in their lives.
