So did you all think I died last week or something? Well it's been exactly a week since I last updated this thingy. Odd. I thought since it's summer and I have so much time on my hands I'd be updating more frequently. Ha. Now, the last week, the condensed version.
Sang at the alumni Mass on Sunday at Father Gerard's request. (Kate H couldn't be there) It was up to me and junior Mike V the guitarist to lead four reuniting classes in song, and i think we did pretty well despite the fact that my voice started going. "We Can Be Kind" is really starting to grown on me. Afterwords we spent Father's Day the way we always do: hanging out at home while Dad sits in front of the TV watching the US Open golf tournament.
Katelyn's grad party was amazing! Everybody was dancing the entire time. It was great. Matt and I got two slow dances in. I have to teach Matt rhythm though. Rob is becoming my dance teacher. The dj played "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" though we had to request that one three times. And everyone loved Katelyn's slide show.
Took Jazzy to the vet on Tuesday. She's in very good health.
This week, George and I had our graduation lessons, the final actual mobility lessons we'll ever have. (well technically, we'll be doing more lessons up at Mville, but the final lessons we'll have down here). Yesterday, I took the train from Seaford to Babylon and back by myself. Today, George and I took the bus to Farmingdale and walked around there, not running into any crazy people in the process. I brought Jazzy on the lesson yesterday but today we tested out my cane skills and found them strong as ever. Apparently I haven't lost my touch with the f-ing stick as Kate calls it. I'm going to miss George and all his eccentricities. Thanks to him I know the refrain to Harry Chapin's "Taxi Driver" and various lines and characters from The Godfather and A Bronx Tale. Makes me sad writing about it.
Have been talking on Aim, Ventrillo, and Team Talk (yet another voice chat thing that TJ, CaliCait, and various use) a lot these days.
My family is driving me crazy. I've been yelled at by both of my parents for various grievances of theirs, mostly that I don't get off my butt and work around the house, and that I'm not responsible and very lazy etc etc etc. Same old stuff all over again. And if my brother barges into my room one more time I'll kill him. 60-something days till I leave for college.
I'm really getting excited about the NFB convention. I'm planning out my schedule already and inundating poor Amanda with Convention info and plans for what we'll be doing there. Unfortunately, the divisions for blind students and guide dog users meet on the exact same night at the exact same time. Don't know what I'll do about that. Other than that though, no scheduling conflicts. I'll be speaking on that Monday afternoon at the Parents of Blind Children meeting about my Jeopardy experiences. (yay, have to write a speech) Should be really fun to have so many people I know there" David, Amanda, Serena, and others. (Ellen, are you going this year?) Unfortunately Megan can't join us since the pool where she works wants her to start early.
Matt and I are having dinner with his sister and her boyfriend tomorrow night and then hitting the boardwalk to finally celebrate our anniversary. And I think Katelyn and I are going to try and do something on Saturday.
And finally, summer employment. I called up Catholic Charities on Tuesday to see if they had a place for me this summer and Lauri said that she was sorry but she didn't need anyone to help her out right now and besides, they'd changed the whole data entry system in February. I was pretty disappointed about that. The last thing I want is to spend the whole summer at home, especially with the family here so frequently. I called up the Commission to try and talk to Florence a bout the job situation, not expecting a response since she never calls me back. Surprisingly though, i received a very prompt call froma vocations counselor who's meeting me next week to talk about possible employment. So I may have a job after all. Yay!!
And that's it. Phew!
Congrats to all who finished school and finals this week.
