Awww !! My Kerrie is being a softie today *squishies*
I've hesitated a thousand times about writing a post like that. I always thought that it wasn't "real" until you actually met in real life. In a way, that's true. When I met my friend in the UK last summer, she wasn't just an online buddy to me, even before I saw her in person. I had been talking to her just as long as you, Susie, Becca, Nik and Mariana. Same with Susie, it didn't even FEEL like I was meeting an online contact at ALL. It was natural to me on both occasions.
I could never cut ties with them or anyone else I think at this point. I'm also about to meet up with two other gals in NYC plus Mariana. After seeing them in person, it kind of changes everything. If you make the effort to travel and take the time to go see them, it MEANS something.
I am not denying it can't happen, anything can happen. It's very possible that I won't be talking to some or all of you in 2 years or something. I might move out of the country, I might not have internet access some day, I might just move on with my life.
I did a project once about Online Communities. They described it in some articles as our "third home". What was different with this type of "home" is that you can shut it off anytime you want. *Click* it's gone. But our acutaly community ? It will ALWAYS be there. No matter what.
I do think of you all as my friends. I do ! When I talk about Kerrie for example, I say "my friend in Calgary". Some of you have touched my life, in more ways than one. Some of you have given me advice, have given me pep talks, have taught me some amazing things - how can I forget that ?
