My hair needed to be a little more blond than it is, so I went to get a little color done. I did this a couple of years ago, and it was a fiasco because the lady only did highlights, and she bleached too much, so I ended up having white hair with VERY visible dark roots. NOT what "lighten it a bit" meant at ALL.
And I suppose I'll never learn. But I needed it again this year for two costumes. So I try our new hair stylist, Sue who does a good cut on me and Mel, and she needs the business. I point out the lighter ash blond color on the sample chart and she goes to work.
20 minutes later, I look in the mirror and my hair is F&^%@ING YELLOW!!! Not even on the blond spectrum, but more like a pale yellow crayon color. I tell her to get it out of my hair NOW. Wash it off and it's sun-yellow with a hint of orange.
Now I love Sue, and I don't want to cuss at her, so I tell her in no uncertain terms that this is NOT what I pointed at on the chart, and it needs to be toned down. Preferable to hair colors that can be found outside of Saturday morning cartoons. Another wash later my scalp is burning like tiger balm. We wash that out and the yellow is toned down, but it left me a light strawberry blonde.
This is me not happy. I look like the middle aged offspring of the Weasley/Delacour marriage. Or actually more like the killer from the movie "FARGO":
DO NOT WANT! But at this point it was 8:30 PM, My son needed tucking in, and no one in the family had eaten, waiting up for me. Plus my scalp couldn't take another round. So I told her I'd sleep on it and maybe come back tomorrow to fix it.
I have to say, when women moaned about getting NOT QUITE the shade of color they were looking for at the salon, I didn't think it was a big deal. Now I know how big a deal it can be. I have to fly to Little Rock the week after DCon and visit with my bosses, who are all kind and let me work from home, so very far away from Arkansas. When they see this, they are going to think I'm moonlighting as a DJ at a gay bar.
I'm trying to think of positives. Only one I've come up with is that this is almost exactly Wash's hair color, but the Firefly Shindig is booked the same time as another party. And plus, this would ruin any credibility to the two costumes I was getting my hair dyed for in the FIRST PLACE.
So wish me luck in correcting this today. I can't spend any more time on it, we have so much to pack and do before we leave.
