So summer marches on. By now I'm busy enough that I don't have time to be bored, which is actually a refreshing change. But I have promised myself that I will not become accustomed to lots of work, lest I become my father. He's a wonderful guy, but he works to relax, which is an accomplishment as desireable to me as becoming a paraplegic. I'm in school or working only about eight or nine hours a day right now, but Thursday I will be starting clinicals for another eight hours a day. Which isn't as bad as it sounds, because it is entirely possible to spend an eight hour day at the fire station and not get a call. Anybody have some book recommendations?
The EMT course is intense. My grades are fine but I still get a very horrible feeling that I don't know any of the information nearly as well as I should. I guess that's more than a feeling; it is a certain fact but the kind that I don't like admitting. At this point I'd do just about anything to assure a good first day in clinicals. This week one poor girl's first run was a rollover with two DOAs and two criticals and her second run was a motorcycle vs. car. Yikes. And this with entirely minimal training; I bet we didn't cover CPR as thoroughly as you lifeguards because there's just too much other stuff to do.
Update... in my last entry my family was moving. In this entry we are not. The seller threw a hissy fit that amounted to, "I'm required by law to sell this house to you now, but that doesn't mean I can't be an absolute bastard about it!" So instead the money will go toward my brother's college education and as of earlier this week, possibly a new car. My brother was on the highway when a large portion of the Durango blew out of its underside. The brake lines, fuel lines, and transmission are all destroyed, and the rest is so bad that we need to take it to a body shop before they can start on those parts. My dad described a line of mechanical parts strewn behind the Durango like some science fiction version of Hansel and Gretel's bread crumbs.
I'm staying busy, but I miss all of you back at college and am quite ready to get back there and set up the apartment. I've been going to garage sales looking for furniture and have discovered that everybody in the world has an unwanted Nintendo 64. And I miss Beth and Bryne! Get back here already!
