The Breakup (fictional)

Haley comes home after a long grueling day at private school when she hears the familiar beep of her answering machine. As her boyfriend, Nathan voice comes over the answering machine she feels a wash of joy only for her world to come crashing down around her ears by the following words. “Haley its Nathan, I’ve got something to tell you which is going to be hard for me. Here it goes…we’re through, I just can’t be with you anymore. I’ve found someone else so don’t bother trying to get back with me.” She sits down on the bed in disbelief and she can’t quite fathom what has just happened. She replays the message in hopes that her ears played an unbearably cruel joke on her but alas the message remains the same and only now she can hear the utter contempt in his voice as he breaks up with her machine. A moment passes, although it felt like a century and then the tears well up in her eyes as her heart breaks into a thousand pieces. All thoughts and emotions run through her as she ponders if it was that she wasn’t pretty enough, not smart enough, not experienced enough, or any other countless combinations she must have done in order for Nathan to break up with her. She lies down on her bed with the tears just streaming down her face and she begins to wish that she could just curl up and die than rather live with the humiliation of being cast aside like a piece of garbage. It was her best friend, Alexia, calling to ask about a homework assignment when all of sudden she hears her boyfriend in the background saying “hey Alexia I’m here and I broke up with Haley’s machine today so we are home free” and then there was an awkward silence and a “never mind about the homework” and then the click as the call was disconnected. Just when Haley thought things couldn’t get any worse, her anguish multiplied by thousands. Not only was Nathan breaking up with her but the someone else was none other than her best friend; Haley felt completely and utterly betrayed. “Why me?” she cried out loud. She was so distraught that she didn’t know what to do but she just knew she needed to get out of her room which held so many memories of the two people she held dear to her heart only to have them destroy her world in one shot. She walks the three blocks to her favorite most private spot, which no one knows about. She sits under the weeping willow tree, which she found quite ironic, compared to her situation and her mood. As she stared out over the lake and watched the sun set beyond the horizon she wondered how she would ever survive such a devastating blow. She wept into her hands at that thought and she was sure her heart would never mend. She heard a noise behind her, and when she turned around she saw…. TO BE CONTINUED.
