So as the last three entries attest, I've been doing some writing!
RCR has been really good for inspiring me. I also added... I think only one old piece to my writing index
here, and I revamped the index to include the month and year each piece was written.
Unfortunately RCR hasn't been very responsive to me since I put up my introductory post. No one has commented on any of my writing, responded to my suggestion to the staff, or replied to my critique of a member's piece. The only replies I've gotten have been from welcoming other new members and once when I commented on someone else's writing portfolio. It's only been a couple days so I'm giving it time, but if I don't feel like part of the community soon then I know myself. I'll get bored.
So I didn't get to say everything I intended earlier because Danny turned on Charmed and he gets impatient when I don't stop ASAP when he puts on a show for us to watch. By the way, while I love Charmed, I've never seen a show with so many stupid plotholes. We're watching from the beginning now and I'm going "That's not how that worked # of episodes ago!" or "ORB THE DAMN AMULET PAIGE!" or "WTF Leo are you frickin retarded they're BAD." (We're on the season with the Avatars.)
But moving on. It feels really good to be a writer again. I'm actually putting stuff out regularly and it's giving me a lot of hope for my books, because this stuff I'm writing on the fly isn't too bad even accounting for the stuff that's bound to change as I progress through the actual writing of the books. Sometimes I still reread old stuff and go "I wrote THAT? The word choice is amazing!" Haha. So it's a little bit of vanity--if it keeps me writing I'm all for it.
I talked to the manager of the Starbucks that's hiring today. She's this really adorable petite little woman who must be Persian or Indian or something. She's all for hiring me but she has to get the okay for a rehire from her district manager. She said she'll call as soon as she knows; I'm thinking I'll try to drop by once in a while just to check in, but I'll try not to border on being a pest.
Finally, a list of potential writing projects in order of priority: Somnion / Eysuria ; For a Soul ; Horizon ; Elemental Force ; The Evil Realm ; Dark Eidolon. I should post EF up in my LJ, it's the only one that's missing so far. It's just tough to choose which one to post. Maybe all? But that's a whole lot of work. Holy crap. We'll see.
So many projects. Somnion is simplest, though I'm not as drawn to it now that I've been doing so much Eysuria planning and writing. I really need to finish it. To be honest, if I was going to get published, I'd rather Blood and Heat come out first anyway. It's less extreme. It would be easier to gain a fanbase from I think. There is slash, but it's more subtle and comes in later, and it's not slash exclusive in the slightest. Better for it to be a surprise anyway. Meh.
Besides, there's way too much room in Eysuria. Aerlun's story spans three lifetimes, and that's just him. There's also the one set in the past in Rahna, with the divided magic and martial defense of a king whose blood amplifies magic around him. And god knows what other little things.
