So I've started keeping a journal about several things that go on spiritually. I also include my bible studies/devotions/whatever you want to call it.
Well, last night when I opened in God's word, I went somewhere different. I've been in the gospel of Mark for a bit, but wanted to go somewhere else, for writing purposes.
I just got to Mark 5, and how I've been keeping notes is: I write down what I read, so I copy the section of what I read into my journal thing as well as how it can apply (and if there's room, I write out some cross-references).
Well, last night I skipped, for some reason, to 1Tim chapter 4. It was a small chapter-16 verses, and it fit on one page. I'm glad I read it-Christ spoke to me through it.
For those that don't know, Timothy was rather young, and that could have easily been a problem with older Christians. He was willing to sacrifice anything to help his ministry-including adult circumcision. Not only was that painful, but it was life-threatening. He did this to help his witness, for the ones he was speaking to were big on tradition.
Anyways, a few things stuck out:
These things command and teach. Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity...Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
1 Tim 4:11,12,16
One thing that's a constant downer in this world is being too young to make a difference-a real difference. Yeah, there's the occasional terminal child who cries peace and causes a few tears, but that's not what I'm talking about. It doesn't matter that I'm only 18-I can start what God wants me to do now. That's preceding with spiritual and physical fitness and the former supercedes the latter in every way. It's all God's, so why worry about what to say, they're his words-they'll work. The only way to attain his words is to read his Word.
