Southern California wins its first Stanley Cup, with the Anaheim Ducks winning Game 5 6-2 over the Ottawa Senators in Anaheim.
Three feats of history were made in this series. Ottawa had a team win a Stanley Cup playoff game for the first time in 80 years, the Senators having won Game 3 5 to 3 in Ottawa. Another feat of history is the this is the third year in a row a Canadian team has played for the Stanley Cup against a US Sun Belt team and lost. Its also the third year in a row for a team that did not exist before 1992 to win the Cup. Canada's streak of not winning the Cup extends to 14 years, when the Montreal Canadiens last won the Stanley Cup in 1993.
