It was Friday at the office..

It was Friday at the office, and as such I was in a good mood.  I kissed Janno goodbye and we both said TGIP! (Thank the gods, it’s Pizza [night]).  A good start to the day.  Later in the morning, I was traversing a hallway singing to myself, as you do, “All we are saying, is give pizza a chance.  All we are saying, is give pizza a chance…”  That was when this young woman came up to me and said, “I only sort of recognise that song you are singing.”  Well, I took this seriously.  This is one of those opportunities that us oldies get to teach the young about the time when music was good and people got pay increases.  So, I filled her is as I felt was my obligation.

“Listen kid, you like the song, sure, why wouldn’t you?   It’s from a time when music was good and people got pay increases. It’s called, All we are saying, is give pizza a chance. It’s easy to remember because the title contains all the lyrics and you can sing them as long as needed at sit-ins, love-outs, acid trips on motorbikes, zero-population rallies, bang the bomb protests, and California sound offs, or whatever it is you kids do.  Me?  I sing it on Fridays, because TGIP day, see.  Now let me fill you in with the facts about this great pizza of music, you know, give you the 411 as you kids say on American TV shows.  It was a song written by a man named John Lemon.  He was the lead bassist for a group called the Bugs and they were part of the Norway Invasion for the moment there when everyone loved the indigenous music of that land.  They had a backbeat, you can’t lose it.

The Bugs became world famous until one day, John went Yoko, killed Paul and stole his shoes off an album cover. Then that was over and since them times, music has lost its melody and rhymes too much.  It’s good for a young person like you to understand this kind of history, it gives you some depth about things.  Have a nice day.  Peace out!”

I said the Peace Out thing, so I wouldn't sound square, or whatever shape young people think old people are now.  I think it worked, she gave me a smile, of sorts.  I don't really know what Peace Out means, I think it may be literal, which would place it as Stop the Peace.  That’s not an ideal I can share, but hey it’s their planet now and if they support all these wars and invasions, I guess that’s their thing.  As for me, I always encourage these young nurses and doctors and especially the psychiatrists in training, I’m gonna need them someday maybe when I’m really old.
