a/n: SO CURRENTLY, I'm hijacking a friend's internet on campus XDDDD She has mobile internet and she lets me use it because she doesn't really use it that much so she's like "okay just use it :D". I should move into her dorm next semester or something XD so anyway, here's the chapter.

Nozomi sat up on her bed and stared out the window. She feared sleep, for she feared the dreams. She was exhausted, tired of staying up but no, no, she couldn’t sleep. She couldn’t risk waking up screaming like she did before. Ryo and Shingo, her two brothers, did not return home from the arena and she was worried. Were they dead? Were they killed? She couldn’t help but to think bad thoughts.

“Oniichan… Shingo-niichan, where are you two…?” She muttered.

Tadayoshi couldn’t believe how big the underground apartment was. He thought it was just a small place with two bedrooms, a living room and one bathroom. He was wrong. Somewhere deeper inside was a training room. Tadayoshi wondered how long the Uchi and the Murakami families were assigned to guide the Kami descendents.

Hiroki, Shingo and Shota stood in line in front of Tadayoshi and Ryo and smiled at them. In Shota’s hands was Tadayoshi’s metal Tonfas and Ryo’s retractable staff. That was probably the first time Tadayoshi saw Hiroki as a man, instead of a cross-dresser. He wasn’t wearing a wig or a skirt or any make-up. Hiroki’s real hair was brown and shoulder-length. He had on a black long-sleeved sweater and pants.

“Oh Jesus, he’s wearing pants,” Tadayoshi heard Ryo mumble. Shota giggled.

The smile disappeared from Hiroki’s face and he cleared his throat. “Well, then. Since the two of you have finally decided to work together, we will need to prepare for battle.”

“Battle?” Tadayoshi quipped.

“The Dead Sun prophecy didn’t state whether the Sun will die from natural causes or otherwise,” said Shota. “I did some digging around and found out something new. Apparently, there’s a satellite making its way to the sun.”

“A satellite?” Ryo repeated.

Shota nodded. “Yeah, a satellite. Or should I say a bomb. The satellite itself is probably the most powerful bomb in the history of mankind. The cost of that bomb’s development is probably the most ridiculous thing you’ll ever hear so I will leave that one out. But there’s only one person in this world rich enough to afford such thing.”

“A foreigner?” Tadayoshi asked.

Shota shook his head. “No. Most of us here don’t realize that the explosion before had affected the rest of the world as well. We’re pretty much cut off from the rest of the world, like the rest of the world is cut off from us. So what we know is really just in this country. But in fact, the rest of the world is really just like us.”

“So who is this rich guy anyway?” Ryo was getting impatient.

“Shibutani Subaru.”

Tadayoshi’s jaw dropped. He knew Subaru was a rich man, but the richest man in the world? That was something new.

“But why is he trying to blow up the sun?” Ryo asked.

“The Shibutani Clan, like the Uchi and Murakami Families, is also a powerful gypsy family,” Shota explained.

“The only thing that separated the Shibutani Clan and our families is bad blood. The Flaming Skull. The end of the world,” said Shingo. “While Kami restores balance in the world, we gypsies are responsible to maintain said balance. Each gypsy family is represented by an animal. When there’s a skull in the equation, it’s easy to tell that they’re bad news. They have their own reasons to make this world a living hell.”

“Well, that makes it easy to recognize it then,” said Ryo.

“Not quite,” Hiroki corrected him, “They do it in secret. Most of them anyway. They conceal their mark, and they don’t just use their gypsy knowledge to achieve their goals.”

“Hiro-chan is right. They will use anything - gypsy knowledge, science, money - just as long as the work gets done,” Shota continued.

“So basically this is a fight between gypsies,” said Ryo. “Why don’t you people just do it?”

Shingo took off his right sandal and threw it at Ryo. Ryo dodged it and shot Shingo a dirty look.

“This is not just a fight between gypsies, you asshole,” said Shingo. “This is a fight for humanity.”

“Where there is good, there is also bad. It’s balance,” said Hiroki.

“But I’m curious,” said Tadayoshi. “Why is Subaru doing this? What will he achieve by blowing up the Sun anyway?”

“Shibutani Subaru can’t go out during the day. Being exposed to the Sun will kill him,” said Shota. “He can’t withstand heat either.”

“Despite the fact his family emblem is a flaming skull Subaru can’t be around heat or under the sun. It will just kill him,” said Shingo. “Ironic isn’t it?”

“But won’t the Earth die without the Sun?” Ryo asked.

“It will,” Hiroki answered.

“Then Subaru would die as well,” Tadayoshi added.

“Just as long as everyone else dies, it doesn’t matter if one of their own dies. That’s the Shibutani Clan philosophy,” said Shingo.

“Meaningless sacrifice,” said Ryo.

“They believe that in death is when they live forever,” said Shota.

“But anyway,” said Hiroki. “The reason why we’re here today is for training.”

Tadayoshi and Ryo tilted their heads to the side. “Training?”

“The two of you may be fighting geniuses,” Hiroki began, “You have to learn how to synchronize your powers and abilities.”

“Subaru may be small and weak-looking, but he is also a better fighter than the both of you,” said Shingo. “Normal gypsies are not capable of hand-to-hand combat, but the Shibutani Clan is different. Aside from being very powerful in the arts, they are excellent fighters. The only way you two can defeat him is if the two of you work together.”

“That’s right. So today, you’ll begin your training. Your showdown is in four days,” said Hiroki. “Your trainer will be,” Hiroki placed a hand on Shota’s head. “Yasuda Shota.” Shota smiled and flashed a peace sign.

“You gotta be kidding,” said Ryo. “A little runt like that?”

Shota puffed his cheeks. While holding Tadayoshi’s and Ryo’s weapons in his left hand, he swung his right hand and a thin and almost invisible wire extended itself from a device strapped around Shota’s wrist. The wire wrapped around Ryo’s left ankle and Shota pulled, causing Ryo to fall hard on his ass.

Tadayoshi snorted and burst out in laughter.

“Shota’s abilities are his best kept secrets,” said Hiroki. “This boy is a prodigy. You two just don’t know shit.”

Shota walked to Tadayoshi and handed him his Tonfas. He then walked to Ryo and bent forward. He smiled and passed Ryo his retractable staff. “Sorry!”

Ryo mumbled profanities as he stood up, rubbing his buttocks.

Hiroki watched as Shingo changed into nicer looking clothes. Clothes that made him fit well into the Northern society. While Tadayoshi and Ryo were busy training, Hiroki and Shingo were in charge of preparing for battle as well. The Kamis were responsible to go to the front lines. The gypsies - The Angels - were responsible for preparation rituals and battle rituals.

“Do you think it’ll be alright? The both of them I mean,” Hiroki asked.

“They’ll get along. Trust me. Ryo may be god-awfully stubborn but I don’t think he’s stupid. He knows where his current responsibilities lie,” said Shingo. “You don’t have to worry about a thing.”

Shingo sat down on the bed next to Hiroki. He placed a hand on Hiroki’s lap and tapped it twice. He smiled at Hiroki but Hiroki knew Shingo was hiding a lot of pain inside.

There was another little bit of history concerning the Murakami Family.

“I have to go. I’ll come back as soon as I can alright?” said Shingo.

Hiroki nodded weakly. “Are you going to bring her?”

“I don’t think I have a choice. She’s still a Murakami as much as she is a Nishikido.”

“A Kami-gypsy hybrid…” Hiroki chuckled. “It’s funny isn’t it? People would usually think the women carry the gypsy heritage and men carry the Kami heritage.”

“That’s what makes this world interesting, don’t you think?”

“I wonder what kind of powers Nozomi-chan has.”

“Probably stronger than ours put together.”

“That’s why we need her on this.”

“That’s why we need her on this.”

“You don’t want her to be involved at all don’t you?”

“Because I know what’s going to happen afterwards. She is also a Murakami. She carries the family curse as well.”

Hiroki leaned his head on Shingo’s shoulder and placed a hand on top of Shingo’s hand. “So it’s true then… about the curse.”

Shingo laughed. “Yeah. Yeah I guess it is.”

“Don’t laugh! It’s not even funny.”

“I’m sorry. I just never thought this day would actually come.”

Hiroki stroked Shingo’s snake ring with his thumb. “But the prophecy said-“

“The prophecy said a lot of things. There are a lot of prophecies, Hiroki. Some of the come true, some of them don’t.”

“I guess you’re right.”

“I’m glad I knew you.”

“Don’t talk like you’re going to die.”

“Maybe I am.”

“Shibutani-sama,” called the slender woman in an expensive dark blue suit. Her hair was neatly done up into a bun and there wasn’t a hair out of place. In her hand was a clipboard. “It is ready.”

“Thank you, Sugimoto,” said Subaru. He turned around and walked towards his assistant. “Good work.”

“Shibutani-sama, forgive my rudeness but there is something I’ve been rather curious about. I would like to ask you a few questions, that is, of course if you don’t mind.”

“Go ahead, Sugimoto. I don’t mind.”

Subaru walked towards the large shelf in his office and pulled a book out of the shelf. A primitive method of hiding a secret room, but Subaru liked it that way. That traditional way of hiding a secret room had to be the best thing man had ever thought of. His assistant, Sugimoto Natsumi followed him as he walked through the large passageway.

“You’ve spent billions of your money to build this satellite bomb,” said Natsumi, “But your plans are very, very vague.”

“So you’re wondering what I’m planning with it?”

“To put it simply, yes, I am wondering what you’re planning to do with it.”

The secret room Subaru had in his office was a private dojo. Subaru took off his jacket and draped it over a bench. He unbuttoned the first few buttons of his shirt and walked towards the altar at the front of the room. He picked up the two swords on the stand and unsheathed both.

“Sugimoto, you’re a woman of science, are you not?” Subaru asked.

“I guess you can say that, sir.”

Subaru looked at the sword in his right hand and it glowed with purple light. “But there are things in this world, this current world we live in, that you just can’t explain with pure science.”

“Shibutani-sama…”

“Prophecies and destinies, life and death, blood and heritage.” Subaru turned around. “That satellite bomb is strong enough to blow up the Sun.”

“Blow up the Sun? But that’s ---“

“Ridiculous? Absurd?” Subaru chuckled. “The Sun is already dying, Sugimoto. I’m just fast forwarding the process. The apocalypse is upon us.”

“But won’t everyone die?”

“Everyone will. Sacrifices are necessary.”

“But Shibutani-sama, surely there’s-“

“A woman of science like you can never understand. We used to live in a world where science is magic and old gypsy teachings were lost. Now we’re back in the era of witchcraft, magic and prophecies. All because of that explosion.”

“But that was just from a nuclear bomb testing gone wrong!”

“That’s what they want you to think.”

“W-What?”

“My ancestors caused that explosion. The First Wave. Now I’m responsible for the second. And it’ll be the final.”

“This is unbelievable…”

Subaru looked at the swords in his hand. He threw one of the swords straight at Natsumi, the blade barely missed her face and grazed her cheek before hitting the wall behind her. A cut was formed and blood trailed out of the fine cut.

“Nothing in this world is worth believing anymore, my dear,” said Subaru.
