Okay. just found out that the local steampunk expo IS going on this year in November. And there are three very important reasons that i am SOOOOOO wanting to go.
reason 1) Abney Park is the "Special guest" first listed on the site. I really like their music and cannot wait to hear them live.
But the MAIN reasons i REALLY REALLY REALLY want to go i almost missed because i didn't see there was a second page to the "guests" list. when i FOUND the second page, there was MUCH mausy Squeeeeeeeeeing.
reasons 2 & 3 TEE MORRIS AND PIP BALLANTINE!!!!!!!!!
These two authors have written two of my FAVORITE steampunk books (and i SOOOO want to get my copies autographed - hopefully without making a complete fool of myself in the process!)
These two WONDERFUL people have created the "Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences" and the wonderful pairing of Wellington Thornhill Books and Eliza Braun. If you have NOT read these books and like steampunk/spy/fun characters - go and find them!
"Phoenix Rising" is the first book and "The Janus Affair" is the second. you WILL want to read them in order. As i explained to someone after the first book - they had me at "bulletproof corset and a love of high explosives"!
They also have a series of short stories written by various other authors and pod casts that are also fun. You can find those and other fun stuff about the MoPO (including some FUN "video book trailers") at their website: here
okay. i'll stop squeeing now. though if i honestly DO get to go and actually get to MEET these people - you may be able to hear the mausy squeaks from where you are.
