CHAPTER 12: I WANNA KNOW YOU..

__________________________________________________________________________________

It's so dark. I don't know where I am. Darkness surrounds me. I feel as if there's no way out. I can't move. My body's numb all over. It's almost as if... As if I'm dead! Oh no! Am I dead? Am I? I hope not. Curse that thief! Had it not been for him, I wouldn't even be in this situation right now. But then again, that happened over an hour ago. Now I find myself lying in a most uncomfortable bed here at the hospital. And the perpetrator? None other than the Thief himself!!

There were just too many thoughts running in Sam's head that she could hardly pay any attention to what Yuri was saying. Yuri had been there even before her sister had even regained consciousness. After receiving a text message that her older sister had been admitted to the hospital, she dropped everything and raced there as fast she could.

"Yo, Sammy!" She snapped. "You even listening?"

"Huh??"

"Of course, you're not."

Realizing how insensitive she was to her own sister, Sam immediately began apologizing. "Sorry, Toni. There are just so many things going on in my mind right now."

"Yeah, I understand. I totally understand." And Yuri did. In fact, she loved where this was going. Not because her sister got hurt but because she herself had managed to escape her sister’s prying questions. She seriously thought she was dead meat after not being able to come home early from the Yamada Residence. Had she been late, she would never have been able to dodge the interrogation Sam would have surely fired at her. It was as if she was a suspect that had to repent for her sins.

Yuri had just taken hold of a glass of water to clear her head when her Sam had to ask, "So. Did you go home early like you were supposed to?"

The question caught Yuri off guard that she almost started choking from her drink. YABAII~!

Sam could only raise a brow as her sister began coughing. "Of course! I did -- I did go home early!" she declared a little too tensely.

"All right." Sam raised her hands. "You don't need to shout. I was only asking."

"Who said I was shouting?!" Yuri shouted.

"Okay! My apologies."

Yuri had to take another glass of water to wash away her tension. Geez, the pressure is on. Why the hell did she have to ask that, anyway?! Damn it! I'm getting nervous now.

She's nervous, I can tell that much. Sam noticed. But why? It was a fairly simple question. Something weird is going on.

"So," she finally said. "How did I get here exactly?"

"I was just talking about that----------!!!!" This is great! She's changing the topic! Yuri couldn't help but let out an evil smile -- one that she and only she can do.

Sam was beginning to feel a little worried. "What's with the evil smile?"

"It's not evil," Yuri corrected. "If you want to know how you got here, then you better shut your mouth up and listen."

"Oh no, no, no," Sam waved her index finger disapprovingly. "You don't tell me what to do, young girl. Now hurry, go on with your duty." She gave Yuri her fakest smile.

Her sister scratched her head. "Okay then. Well, the story started as I got home early from school..."

You liar.

"I received a call coming from your number and I was in total wonder because I could immediately tell that the person on the other line wasn't you."

"Wait," Sam interrupted. "Who was it? Was it a guy? Is he the one who brought me here? What did he say? Did he mention his name? He's the one who saved me, right? Right?" Sam was practically brimming with curiosity.

Her overload of questions left Yuri with her jaw hanging. "You sure don't have many questions, do you? And anyway, it wasn't a guy. It was a nurse -- and a female one, at that. She didn't tell me anything about a guy or whoever it was that brought you here. You've forgotten that I'm only 17. I’m in no position to be told what happened. But our grandparents might have an idea though."

"Oh," came Sam's only reply.

It's so obvious that she's disappointed. "But sis, you sure that it was a guy who saved you?"

"As far as I can remember," she admitted. "I only saw the guy's hands but they were long and masculine... I guess. It was all so fast. But I'm sure it was a guy!"

"Then he must be a really nice guy," Yuri commented after much thought. "I mean, he did save you. Right?"

Sam smiled. "He is. And I would be glad to know him."

Meanwhile... Someone was late for pictorial again.

"Yo minna~!!" A tall blondish-looking guy with a cute smile greeted the other 9 members of Hey!Say!JUMP who had been awaiting him in the dressing room.

"Well, thank God you're here!" Kota Yabu sighed in relief. "But YOU'RE 3 HOURS LATE!! -- Yuya TakaGi!"

"Hey! It's not TakaGi! It's TakaKi. YUYA TAKAKI desuuuu~!!" He cleared.

Yabu rolled his eyes. "Yeah, whatever."

"So Yuya," Kei Inoo spoke. "Why are you soooo late?"

"I had to bring this young lady to the nearest hospital," Yuya explained. "She collapsed after this 'fight' that she had with a guy who was attempting to steal her bag. And the thing is, I saved her. I mean at first, I only watched her because---"

Yuto Nakajima's reaction cut him off. "EH?! You only watched her?! Yuya wa baka!!"

"'Baka?'" Yuya's eyes widened in surprise. "Yuto, I haven't even finished. Calm yourself down first, okay?"

"Oh," Yuto blinked. "Sumimasen."

"So yeah," Yuya reassumed his account. "As I was saying, I was only observing at first because she was one heck of a fighter. She really knew how to get a good kick in. But then the thief took out this huge cooking knife---"

"A KNIFE??!!" Chinen couldn't help but scream. He shivered.

Yuya's patience was running a little short. At least let me finish first!

He stared at Chinen for a while before a continuing. "One look at his weapon and she had gone pale. She started sweating like crazy. That was when I realized that she was afraid of knives."

"So you merely proceeded on watching her?" Keito Okamoto queried.

"Of course not!" Yuya cried. "I saved her!"

"How'd you do it then?" Ryutaro Morimoto countered. Listening to Yuya go on about saving anyone left nearly everyone a little doubtful.

"She was caught off guard," Yuya related. "She couldn't move. I only managed to block the knife while it was 3 inches from her face. That's when she collapsed."

"EHH??!!!" Keito and Ryutaro reacted in unison.

"You mean the girl was this close to getting hurt?" Yamada questioned from sudden interest.

Yuya solemnly nodded. Yabu, being the Big Brother however, wasn't paying him much attention to his grand tale. Instead, he began calling all the members. "C'mon minna! The pictorial's about to start. Yuya, stop talking and start preparing. You're the only one who's still isn’t ready."
