Part 11

Feel like I got a lot done today... but I'm still behind... oh well

The next time Serafine woke up she wasn’t in the car, she was wrapped up in a blanket and on a bed. She sat up and saw clothes laid out for her. She grabbed them and put them on quickly under the blanket. They were a little big but better than nothing. She got up and examined the room. It was someone’s room, they still had their stuff in it, but there were boxes by the closet and it was very clean. Only a few things on the dresser, some hairpins, a jewelry box, and empty picture frame. She opened the drawers and saw that they were mostly empty, there was a sweatshirt in one, some mismatched socks in another and a few long sleeved shirts in the bottom drawer.

Serafine shook her head and remembered she had no idea where she was. She needed to get home. To Ben. She needed to be in his arms and make sure he was okay. She needed to see that she didn’t break out and scare him and if she did she needed to make it right. She quietly peaked outside the room, seeing no one there she walked down the hall towards the stairs. Her nose crinkled at the smells of the house. She didn’t like any of the two new smells she could smell. There was also the two familiar smells of Ixter and Jay. She growled quietly at the thought of those two. They tricked her and brought her here. What if they had Ben somewhere?! She stopped in her tracks and consciously tried to smell for Ben. She’d never really tried using her improved smelling ability before it was really weird trying it now. She was suddenly aware of the cologne, the food, the sweat, and one very faint smell of the girl who’s room she’d just been in, but no Ben. Good. Not here. That meant she could leave and get home.

She tried her best to go down the stairs as quietly as she could. After the first step creaking she sat down on the step. Remembering when she tried to do this as a kid she slowly dropped her butt from step to step. Creeping down the stairs like a little kid. She’d finally made it when she heard a door open. She quickly got up and hid behind the wall the stairs was against. She was in a living room area that connected into another room. She walked as quickly and quietly as she could to the other room, taking big long steps to get there sooner. The other room was the kitchen and dinning room with only a half wall separating the two. There was a patio door to freedom in the dinning room, but the footsteps of whoever entered the room came closer. It smelled like Jay and one of the other new smells.

“I’m glad Kim, I really am. But don’t you think you’re moving a little fast?”

“What do you mean by fast Jay? It’s just a vacation. It gets kind of annoying going back and forth to our packs and never actually getting some alone time.”

“You want alone time here? Say the word! Fin and I will go on a hunt and you two can have a nice romantic evening here and then have whatever we bring home for dinner. I’ll even make Fin season it and shit.”

Serafine could smell the annoyance on the female, Kim. Jay was making her mad.

“You’re not getting the point Jay.”

“What if we need you? And you’re weeks away in the middle of nowhere?”

“Then call up someone who won’t be weeks away enjoying a stress free environment without her pack leader getting on her back every time she mentions her boyfriend!”

Kim sat down at the kitchen table and Jay walked to the fridge. Serafine backed away and started to head around to the other side. On the other side of the stairs she could see into the dinning room. Maybe if she moved fast when they were distracted to could get by without being seen.

“Rick is making you drop all your responsibilities to the pack. When was the last time you went on a hunt with us?!”

Kim’s anger rolled off her in a wave. “When was the last time Christi went on a hunt?! I don’t see you bitching at her about that!”

Serafine scrambled to the other side of the open room. The door was right there. She started to move towards it and froze. The other new smell was sitting right there reading a book on the loveseat. He looked up at her and smiled. His dark dirty blonde hair was sticking out in all directions and his light blue eyes seemed kind and childish. “Going out for a walk?” He seemed friendly and harmless.

Serafine nodded stiffly. He made her nervous and unsure of her situation. Not sure what to do now, fight him and run, or go back upstairs and sit in that room for till the end of time.

“Have fun!” He went back to reading his book and ignored her.

Serafine blinked and before she could think about anything else she was out the door. She was out the door and everywhere all around was a field. She didn’t stop to panic. She’d do that later. Tire tracks, she’d follow those. A path. Freedom. Ben. She was almost there.
