Part 10

Jay tranquilized her. There was no way she’d listen to them now. She needed to calm down. Calm down so they could tell her they kidnapped her from the only person in the world who was okay with her condition, but only so they could teach her how not to try and eat him every month. He pulled the blanket back up over her as she slumped in the backseat. She also needed to clam down so she could put some clothes on. He sighed and turned to face the front, he slouched down in his seat and watched the road.

“She hates us.”

“Everyone hates me.” Ixter rested his hands on the steering wheel, not to drive just to rest his hands on something and bring attention back to the fact that he didn’t need to steer. He was right everyone did hate him. Jay was hating him right now. The little magic jerk.

Jay hated him when he first met him after he stopped hunting and started doing recovery jobs. Ixter the slender man had found his way into Jay’s office and quickly became the main source for finding new wolves that needed to either be put down, by the hunters, or recovered by the rescuers. Ixter always enjoyed accompanying Jay on his jobs, and always found the time to get in on the really interesting ones.

The reason why this job was interesting was because they’d gone over a year undetected in such a populated area. This Ben guy must’ve been good at keeping her in check, but the last few months not so much, she’s been taking pets and drunks and last month she took a small group of teenagers. Jay had discovered this girl all on his own and that’s why Ixter was interested, someone even he didn’t notice. Other than that she was a normal wolf at her stage, still young, just starting to be able to turn into a Gauru, She can turn into a Dalu no problem with the proper motivation.

“So, how’s your pack?” Ixter tried to make conversation, he already knew the answer just by asking, but knowing the answer and listening to how they answer the question is still interesting to him. It tells him how they wish to share it.

“They are fine.” Christi still hasn’t come home. “Things are going well for Kim and her mate.” She’s thinking of leaving for his pack. “Fin is Fin.” Fin will always be Fin.

Ixter smiled and leaned back in his seat. “So Christi?”

Jay sighed and looked out the side window. The bastard always asked the most difficult questions. He was trying to get a reaction and he wasn’t going to give it to him. “What about Christi? She’s off at school aceing all her classes and being human.”

“You still go and see her?”

“No. She knows every time I’m there. She can smell me.”

“Want me to check on her? I think she’s in the locker room right now at the gym…”

Jay hit him again this time he actually tried to hurt him for it. “Stop using your powers to inappropriately!”

Ixter started to crack up. He pressed the palm of his hand to his nose and fell backwards in his seat. “I wouldn’t do that! She’s in class right now. Chemistry. I just wanted you to admit you care for her.”

“Of course I care for her she’s part of my pack!”

“Yeah? She’s all the way in California and you’re still here in Wisconsin home of the stupid cheese heads. You wouldn’t just let Fin up and go to Mexico or Maine or someplace you can’t reach him.”

Jay grumbled. “I’d let Fin go, if he had something he really wanted to do.” If Fin had told him he wanted to go to school in New York or something he’d probably die laughing. Fin isn’t going anywhere he knows his place is with the pack. This isn’t something that’s even worth thinking about.

Ixter straightened up in his seat and looked Jay dead on. “You wouldn’t.”

Jay grinded his teeth and kept looking out the window. “Yeah well, Fin doesn’t need to leave. Fin doesn’t need to fake being normal. Fin doesn’t need to be independent and doesn’t need to yell at me every time I stop into town because I’m worried!”

Ixter put his hands up defensively, smile on his all knowing face, he’d gotten to the truth. “I’m sure she misses you too.”

“Just drive Jackass.”
