Unfortunately in Detroit you have to have a car. Historically, the auto industry helped to squash the development of a clean, safe, reliable public transport system. And the city is *really* spread out. So basically if you don't get a car, you aren't going to have much of a life here. I liked the public transport in England. We barely ever used our car there.
