Squeak, Rumble, WHOMP! WHOMP! WHOMP! by Wynton Marsalis, ill. by Paul Rogers

I have the good fortune of already having read a copy of Wynton Marsalis's new picture book, Squeak, Rumble, WHOMP! WHOMP! WHOMP!, which is described on the cover as "a sonic adventure". And boy, is it ever.

Prepare for a VERY NOISY storytime when you decide to read this one.

Our back door squeeeaks.
A nosy mouse eeek-eeek-eeeks!
It's also how my sister's saxophone sometimes speee . . . . eeaks.

Get ready to RRRRUMBLE (sorry - couldn't help myself), tlick-tlock, WOOO-uuu, Brrrawmp! and more as you read this opus describing things like the sound of a dripping faucet, buttering toast, barber's clippers, trombone slides, bass drums and more.

The book concludes with a raucous double spread consisting mostly of LOUD WORDS that rhyme. I don't love it the way I did Jazz ABZ, the earlier collaboration between these two, but it IS a lot of fun, and I think kids will enjoy it.

And guess what? It goes on sale tomorrow!!
