I just bought rollerskates and even though I can't rollerskate I am quite excited.
A guy from my work took his kids rollerskating a couple of weeks ago and I've been thinking about it since then. I went a couple of times in high school, but that was about it.
So I thought I should buy rollerblades, because there was some part of me that had the idea rollerblades were easier to use. I went to Rebel Sport and tried on a couple of pairs of rollerblades - but these white rollerskates were just calling my name.
Problem was, when I got them home and laced up those babies I realised I had no idea how to skate. Seriously, I'm standing in my lounge room thinking: "How do I get to the front door?"
I got there somehow, not by skating that's for sure. Second obstacle was the expanse of driveway that confronted me. I had naively thought I would practise in the driveway - but looking out onto that sea of concrete I realised something was missing. Anything at all to hold onto. Right, carport it is. I moved my car and had my own little rollerskating rink.
I started going from one side to the other (about 2m), then from one end to the other (3m), then after about half an hour I had progressed to being able to skate in a circle without holding onto anything or falling down. Clearly I am gifted.
Goal for tomorrow: learn how to stop without having to run into a wall.
