I've got tons of stuff I've wanted to blog about in the past several weeks, but with all the craziness that is Kelly's Life, I haven't done 'em. And now it seems like the moment has passed for some of the Deep Thoughts I've had. (I know, I know, yet another lesson to Live in the Moment.) So, I will settle for a drive-by post.
1. Movie:
Everybody's Fine. Quiet, slow drama with lots of well-portrayed family angst. It's a movie I wouldn't have expected to like but I really enjoyed it. It's thought-provoking. Good Sunday-afternoon family movie (if your family skews a bit older).
2. This season of How I Met Your Mother is legen ... wait for it ... dary. Lots of great writing and character development and laughs and seriousness. Not watching? You should be.
3. It sucks having aging parents.
4. Speaking of aging: go see the movie Red. Elder statesmen kick ass! Helen Mirren kills people! Shit blows up! Karl Urban!
5. I'm in the mood to buy music again. I'm thinking Maroon 5 and Darius Rucker and the soundtrack to Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
6. I'm 10K into Stormy Weather and already I'm reworking the outline. It's a good thing. I'm moving up the pacing and making the protag actually protag. Maybe I'm getting the hang of this writing thing. Or maybe I'm just coming to terms with the idea that we learn how to write each book as we write it. Or maybe I need to shut up about it and work on the outline some more already.
7. Last Saturday I had my Annual Shopping Trip with the girls. I bought boots, dominatrix shoes (black strappy heels that make my feel like a rock star or--you guessed it--a dominatrix), a gothic-y/steampunk-y business-card holder, junk food from Trader Joe's (including Triple Ginger Cookies, yum), and
STAR WARS COOKIE CUTTERS. I can make Yoda Christmas cookies! I also tried on a formal dress that I had no intention of buying. So much fun.
8. Still reading Joe Hill's HORNS. Characterization skills? Hill's get 'em.
9. Contemplating life and love and childhood and parenthood.
Huh. That last one actually deserves its own post. Perhaps I'll actually get around to writing it.
What about you guys? What's up in your world?
