Thank God for Yahoo!Music's radio channels for keeping me more or less in tune with what's happening music-wise in UK. After being continuously subjected to 'Mandopop' and other Asian audio 'delights', it's liberating even to listen to boy bands like Westlife again!
Anyway, a few observations on some recently released tracks...
* Westlife's 'Raise Me Up' sounds like a blend of that Xmas song 'A Child is Born' and Bette Midler's 'Wind Beneath My Wings'....it's bearable but has strong overtones of these two songs.
* Madonna's 'Hung Up' is horrendous and the video is just as bad. While she looks good for her age, she really needs to give up prancing about in a hot-pink leotard. Plus I think it's tragic how she's sampled Abba's 'Gimme, Gimme, Gimme'...it just sounds totally out of place.
* Gorillaz's 'Dirty Harry' is brill and so is the video! This group can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned and it's partly due to the fact that they're one of the most original 'groups' around...Damon Albarn is a musical genius. ^_^
* Robbie William's 'Advertising Space' is something very different to his previous singles and I quite like the direction he's taken in his latest album. While I love his quirkier tracks 'Rock DJ' and 'Radio', I think his newest single shows a certain maturity and sounds like something that The Verve might have released. Love it!
I think that's all for now as I refuse to put myself through the latest singles by Pussycat Dolls (I'm going to avoid using the name I usually call them by!) and the Crazy Frog (when are people going to realise this is no longer funny??)
