Happy Birthday to me - When I got home this afternoon, I had flowers waiting for me outside my door!
This weekend we had our residency retreat. I drove up to the resort with my friend Ashley in the afternoon on Friday. Upon arrival we had a fun exercise on personality types awaiting us. Back in med school I took the Meyers-Briggs personality test, so I was pretty curious how it may have changed in the past 3-4 years. My results... I am an
ENFP. (Extraversion - Intuition - Feeling - Perceiving)
ENFP's are people oriented, creative, seeking harmony, and starting more than they finish. This supposedly means I am:
"Warmly enthusiastic and imaginative. See life as full of possibilities. Make connections between events and information very quickly, and confidently proceed based on the patterns they see. Want a lot of affirmation from others, and readily give appreciation and support. Spontaneous and flexible, often rely on their ability to improvise and their verbal fluency."
We then proceeded to have a senior resident vs. intern field day, complete with elementary-style games like the 3-legged race, sack race, tug-of-war, etc. The seniors won, but only because it was rigged. Seniors always win, secondary to tradition!
Before dinner we had some time to relax and hang out in our condos. The conversation turned a little dramatic as a couple of my fellow interns discussed being really tired of work, and basically stressed out from all of it. Q4 call and long nights with high acuity patients in the NICU can be trying for anyone. I too have certainly had my moments of stress, the verge of tears, and utter frustration, but all in all I feel like the year is going well for me. I feel lucky to have good friends and family to talk with and even though many of you are miles and miles away, I think we do a fair job of keeping in touch.
Breakfast this morning was amazing! One of our ER nurses is an awesome cook, so every year they invite her up to stay at the resort and pay her to make up a huge breakfast. There was french toast, hash browns, quiche, biscuits and gravy, some sort of rice dish, bacon, orange juice, coffee, etc. Mmmmm.
Some people stayed at the resort today and tonight, but I decided to drive home since I have to work in the morning - (boo for working on my bday). Back to reality!
