So in natural fashion, the Angelhunter and I are up to trouble, as it's trouble we like so much.
So this shoot was a huge experiment in a lot of different regards, as well as the usual unanticipated difficulties and happy surprises.
Concept was mostly done by the Angelhunter, although we had been talking about doing some lingerie shots for some time now. She also did the hair and makeup, and I did the lighting and the shooting.
Which was a bit more new to us; before hand we kinda have always been a little more flowy with our picture taking; as in, I know how to shoot her, and she's comfortable enough in front of me, so we always managed a good photo somewhere in there. We went in here a bit more planned, and with good reason. We were shooting indoors (which while we have attempted before, never had much success, too little light and I knew way less about it then than I do now), so a better lighting set-up was required. Originally I was going to use the lighting kit my father has to light what we needed, but considering we were running on some weird time, the damn thing was huge and heavy and, well, the current car I'm driving doesn't have that much free space in it, I didn't bring it. I actually think it worked out better in the end - I don't even think I could have fit the lights I needed and me into the bathroom to still get a good shot.
So then, like any good art student, we improvised. Ended up using the overhead lights, and two lamps she had in her apartment to light the scene, as well as finally working more with the natural flash of my camera (including the most ghettoized diffuse ever, but ended up getting rid of it halfway through the shoot). So the lighting is a bit flat and even in that regard... but it works with what we were going for.
Oh, I also forgot to mention... you have to realize, when we were shooting? The apartment was FUCKING COLD. And I mean, FUCKING COLD. We walked in and it read 38 degrees. I think during the shoot we were hitting around 54ish tops. We resorted to alcohol and goulash to keep us warm. And coats for her in between shots while I was futzing with things. But seriously. Fucking cold! And I wasn't even the one in my underwear. Brava, love.
So yes, this was outrageously fun, and a wonderful way to end 2009/begin 2010. We also had a couple more ideas, but ended up running out of time (we were late enough to the New Years party to show up at as is), but would like to do them eventually when we do get more time. I learned a whole lot more with working with lighting in real space (it's pretty similar and quite different in comparison to 3D), and now totally want to make sure I can bring up the real lighting kit and use that next time.
Comments and criticism welcomed and encouraged. Enjoy!
