Oy. Note to self: After 10:00pm is not a good time to start baking. OTOH, we now have pumpkin pie! (Also some left over filling, as the recipe called for a 9" pie dish, and my choices were 8" or 12". I'll make some tarts tomorrow later ( Read more... )

It turns out that it's easier to extract walnust whole from the shell than pecans, bizarrely. (Possibly due to the air between the shell and the kernel.) However, it's nigh-on impossible to extract the pith from within the kernel without breaking it. Bugger ( Read more... )
