The holiday luncheon for work was last week, but a few department heads decided we could have another, less formal get-together today. I was a bit apprehensive about going when no one else from the library wanted to go (I'm such a baby), but I sucked it up and headed over a little late. Alabama Shakes puts on one hell of a show. No butt-wagging, no cleavage or minidress or sparkly getups, no gratuitous headbanging (unlike the first opening act). Just five musicians and one hell of a voice -- Brittany Howard sings with everything she's got. The genre is something called roots rock, which is part blues, part country, part folk. The dean of the law school let us out a few hours early, so I was gone by three yesterday. Had a few errands, then found a parking spot for Mom's car and parked there to save it.
