more rambling than an organized happy list today

In my dreams last night, my parents successfully arranged my marriage to the beautiful Karl Urban. I certainly didn't mind, but I was sure he had no idea what he was getting into by agreeing to marry a nutter like me. But he seemed to be cool with it even after meeting me, so the wedding was set for late March. And then I woke up. (I know he's married already; I don't know why my subconscious chose him and not someone available. Dreams are weird.)

I don't know why I woke up after only six hours of sleep, though. Boo. I could have slept longer, I could have slept later, but once I woke up, that was it. O_O

I'm not quite sure what's going on -- I got a blue dragon from Avery a few days ago, and then pythia_delphi, blueartemis07, and droxy sent them, too. (Thank you!) And now LJ says two months of paid time have been added to my account. I'm not complaining, but for what? I looked on the Home page and didn't see anything that would explain what this is all about. *is confuzzled* I know I didn't do anything -- my account wasn't due to be renewed for another month or three -- so whoever else is responsible, thanks for that!

I was grumpy last night after Gary Oldman didn't get the Oscar for Best Actor. I haven't seen The Artist, and Gary himself said Jean Dujardin would win, but I was still rooting for Gary, because he was amazing in TTSS. I haven't cared this much about who gets what since Saving Private Ryan was robbed of the Best Picture trophy.

The plumbers kept threatening to turn the water off to do repairs over the weekend, but then they found they needed something they didn't have or broke something they did have, so they never followed through. But I kept holding off on chores because I thought we'd lose the water at any minute. Boo. And they were still working on it this morning! Landlord Dave looked close to a panic attack when I left for work today.

I uploaded about a day and a half of film scores to iTunes, and I'm slowly making my way through them. They're arranged alphabetically, so after listening to and categorizing tracks from a dozen CDs including A.I., Blade Runner, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and three series of Doctor Who, I'm up to Dragonheart. Work is a perfect time to decide where tracks go; I listen with half my brain and work with half my brain, and when the day is over, I've categorized several hours of music for writing purposes.

On a related note, I rejoiced when I went online looking for used music shops in Long Beach and found that the one I frequented for seven years in Belmont Shore didn't close -- they moved! They're downtown now, but they're still there. They used to be a block from the bank where I worked, so I spent at least half my Friday afternoon breaks there for seven years. I'm off after work to see what film scores they have; I can usually find a CD for about half Amazon's new price. Sometimes less.

Made less progress on the fic this weekend than I'd planned, though I did work on it. I have several post-its for concepts I want to weave into the fic on my computer's tower, and I have that copy of the first draft that's marked up to within an inch of its life to work from. It doesn't have a lot of balance -- a lot happens on Tuesday, then there's a little for each of the three days after, and then Saturday has a lot happening, and Sunday has a lot happening. I'm just writing everything for now, and I'll collaborate with an alpha reader to see what should be cut and what's worth keeping.

After dinner Saturday, Dad and I went to the Palos Verdes Peninsula to look at the sky show. Venus, the moon, and Jupiter made a very pretty triangle in the sky after sunset. We found Venus and the moon while the sun was still above the horizon, but I only found Jupiter when the sky was dark. We looked for Mercury, too, but a fog bank and wispy clouds blocked our view. Three out of four ain't bad, and the winter constellations of Orion, Canis Major, and Gemini showed up for us to admire by the time I dropped Dad off.

It's supposed to rain and thunder today. *keeps fingers crossed*

This Thursday starts a whirlwind of extracurricular activities that will last nine days. Dentists, two Mysterium plays, the chiropractor, a visit to Exposition Park, a concert (squee), the San Diego Zoo (squee), and working twelve hours in a week where I normally work forty.

Today's outfit = win. An old orange/yellow/fuchsia button-down shirt, jean jacket, dark jeans, navy Keds, and peacock feather earrings. Just enough makeup to bring out the eyes, brows, and lips. I was originally going to wear a white shirt, but it was kind of bland against all the dark blue. It's still me wearing the outfit, so it doesn't look that great, but this might be a new favorite.
