October Vacation (Bike ride #10)

Nov 27, 2008 16:53

This will be a vacation post that also counts as another motorcycle trip post since Mark Wolfin and I rode our bikes to the rental house (See Below).
[B - Rental House, C - Cape Hattaras Lighthouse, D - Elizabeth City].
Lesley has always wanted to rent a beach house and go vacation with friends. Ever since she told me about this desire I was skeptical. To me it sounded like going to your friends and saying, "I'm going to XXX on vacation, Here's when I'm going, here's the list of people going. Here's what it costs. Give me money." Nevertheless, our friends seemed really excited about the chance and we all had a super time.

Here's the house we decided on. We ended up getting most of the bedrooms full (from what we could tell, though we didn't know about all the bedrooms) and think there may be even more people interested in the future. By the way, we have reserved the house for the same week in October next year and the bedrooms aren't full yet. :^)
We had one single person and 4 couples in this house but we could have easily taken a few more. There are four bedroom suites, one room with a queen bed (no closet so it doesn't count as a bedroom), one room with bunkbeds and a single bed, and a room in the basement with a pullout couch.

The house is on the south end of Nags Head so it's out of the way of people and it's right next to where the parks begin. It's on a small bit of peninsula where the houses are privately owned and this is the only rental house (read: No Tourists).

The house is BRAND NEW. Meaning: I had to mark it's location with an "X" on this satellite photo. There are now houses all down that one side of the street only and the X marks the last house on the street which also has a dock right there in the protected cove on the Albemarle Sound (where you can catch flounder right off the dock if you aren't in the mood for kayaking). Additionally, if you paddle out of the cove and around to it, there's a small sandy beach that you can see in the picture below on the left.

The top floor is huge and open:

a huge kitchen with two ovens. There are two fridges in the house plus two wine/beer fridges, two ice makers, a pool table, a swimming pool, and hot tub and great views.

While we were there we had the time to visit Cape Hattaras & Bodie Island lighthouses on a motorcycle trip. Though the light (Hattaras) wasn't open to climb so we'll try again next year.

Additional pictures of fun:

(the house from a marsh island we paddled to and the kayaks to paddled there in)
