Shana found a barbeque place in Vienna that she wanted to try. It was sort of a southern, open-pit BBQ. Seemed to be run by a Korean couple. Fox News was on the television in the back. Now, all day one of the big things on multiple TV and radio channels was the fact that grateful people in Houston said the locals were treating evacuees like kings and queens.
Well, on the TV at the restaurant was some male anchor hearing from a reporter-woman in Houston who was talking to a man in the street. The evacuee was incensed. He was yelling and carrying on about how awful everything is. I should add here that he was wearing obviously-new clothes including a clean, wrinkle-free, button down shirt. I'm sure that it sucks to be that guy right now. I feel badly for the people who were affected by these combined disasters. But this guy's appearance did not fit with his complaints. Obviously the anchorman in the studio didn't think so either. After the reporter's closing comments, he asked her if the man was still there and could be reached. The reporter relayed the question:
"What do you want to happen?"
"First of all they should give everyone of us at least $20,000."
That's right. Twenty thousand dollars (at least) just to start with. Does anyone think:
1)that it's the government's job to pass out that kind of money to hundreds of thousands (maybe a couple of million) people?
or
2) that giving out that kind of unrestricted cash would even help anything at all?
No, nevermind, those kinds of ridiculous questions just legitimize the guy. How about
3) can any body believe this guy?
Apparently the anchor couldn't. Once the guy on the street started ranting about this being modern day slavery the anchor said "OK, that's enough of that. Thanks."
nola,
