It seems to me like Pop!Tech, TED and SXSW are all merging into 'techno geeks meet the music world' cons. For those with hug bankroll. With Pop!Tech adding artists like Amos Lee, Imogen Heap and (gasp!) Paul Simon, they seem to be grasping at "Look, we have brains... and WE'RE COOL TOO!" Whereas SXSW was already cool without knowing it and without screaming it, but now are saying "We maked us smart. You come too." And TED, well, I don't know enough of the history of it, but it seems to be "May I have your gold card number please Sir/Madam? Yes, here's your confirmation number."
*shrug* Makes me wonder at what their directions are and what their targets are. It is interesting to watch the evolution of the events though.
