=Birthday Quest=
...Don’t call me!! And don’t call your apartment’s number too!!...
“NANDA KOREEE!!?!?” Reita yelled as he almost crumpled the paper he held. Reita tilted his head up and looked around him. The studio was so tranquil if Reita had to compare it to the fuss he just made and he would make. Reita looked at the paper again and asked again, “NANDA KORE!?”
“Shut up…” Ruki said as he threw a small crumpled piece of paper to Reita’s head.
“Ruki, help me!” Reita kneeled in front of the sofa where Ruki sat. That time, Koron was sitting on Ruki’s lap. The tiny dog looked at Reita for a moment before he lay down comfortably on his master’s lap.
“No,” Ruki answered shortly as he took a small mirror from his pink bag and checked his appearance with it.
“Ruki, pleeeaaase!”
“I’m busy.”
“You’re just… looking at yourself in the mirror…”
“It’s much more beneficial than helping you.”
“RUKIIIIIIIII!!” Reita yelled.
“SHUT UUUUUUUUP!!” Ruki hit Reita’s head with his small mirror.
“Awooooooooo~!!” And Koron howled.
“Here!” said Ruki as he put a lighter - which he also took from his pink bag.
“Haa..??” Reita was confused when he saw the lighter on his hand. His other hand was rubbing his head at the spot where Ruki hit him with the mirror. “What is this for?”
Ruki returned to his reflection in the small mirror. He fixed his bangs. “He just asked me to give it to you.”
“He? You mean…Aoi? But… lighter?” Reita was getting more confused. “B-but what for..?” Reita then stunned. He held Ruki’s shoulder and shook it. “He didn’t ask me to burn a house, right!?”
Ruki hit Reita’s head with his small mirror again. “Can you reduce your stupidity level a bit, Reita?” Ruki was tsk-ing. “Why would Aoi ask you to do that?”
“Then why did he give me a lighter?” Reita looked at the shiny thing in his hand again.
“How should I know?!” Ruki protested. Koron barked. “Why don’t you ask it directly to him?!”
“Can’t… I can’t call him this whole day…”
“So go and find him, Idiot…” Ruki said as he pushed Reita’s forehead with his small mirror.
“It hurts!” This time, Reita protested as he rubbed his forehead. “How can I find him? I even don’t have any idea where he is now…”
“Bah…” Ruki snorted; annoyed. “Why won’t you ask Kai instead? Maybe he knows something.”
“Where’s Kai?”
“HOW SHOULD I KNOW!?” Ruki yelled. “Why won’t you call him?”
Now, Reita was tsk-ing. He took his iPhone from his inner jacket’s pocket and called Kai.
“Hey, Reita!” Kai answered cheerfully. Reita could hear a sound like hot cooking oil splashing. Kai was definitely cooking at the moment.
“Hey, Kai. Do you know where Aoi is?
“In your heaaaaart, Reitaaaa~” Kai said cheerfully.
Reita almost threw his iPhone if only he didn’t realize that the thing still won’t reach Kai's place. He just squeezed the poor thing and yelled at Kai. “KAI, I’M SERIOUS!!”
“SHUT UUUUP!!” Ruki yelled from behind him.
“Awooo~” Korong howled again.
Kai laughed. “He’s here, Rei…”
Kai’s answer was a surprise for Reita. “What..!? W-what is he doing there?”
“He just wanted to learn how to coo-ouch!” Kai yelled suddenly. If Reita didn’t hear it wrong, something or someone was smacking Kai’s body (hand, perhaps?) back then. “I mean he was… mm… what?” Kai asked. Reita heard whispering. “Oh! He just wants to have a lunch here. Yeah! That’s it! Ahahaha!” Kai explained.
Failed.
Reita’s right eyebrow was twitching. He didn’t believe with what just Kai said. “Hey. I’m not that stupid, Kai…”
“Ah! Now you admit that you’re stupid!” Kai said - still - with his cheerful voice.
“Shut up! I’ll bully you later! Of course I won’t believe such an answer! Hey, Aoi! I know you’re there! What do you mean with this paper!?” …silent… “Hello?” …still silent… “Hellooooo..??”
Slowly, Kai’s voice returned. “Are you done yelling?”
“Oh, I’m s-sorry…” Reita scratched his un-itchy head. “C-can I talk to Aoi?”
Kai fell silent for a moment before he answered, “He won’t, Rei…”
“Why?”
“I don’t know… he just left…”
“EH!?” Reita was shocked. “W-where did h-he go!?” Reita turned panic.
“He didn’t go anywhere, Rei. He’s still here. But he just went to another room. I don’t know where…”
“OK! I’m heading to your place now!”
“Hey, Reita!” Kai called in panic for Reita won’t have the time to hear him before he ended their conversation.
“Yes? What is it?” Lucky that Reita still heard Kai's calling.
“Don’t forget to bring the lighter that Ruki gave you, ‘kay?”
“OK!” Reita said before - at last - he ended their conversation. When he put his iPhone in his inner jacket’s pocket, Reita realized something. “Hey, how did Kai know about this lighter?” Reita asked himself as he looked at the lighter again. “Oh, maybe Aoi told him about this…” Reita then took his sling bag and his helmet from the table beside the sofa where Ruki sat. “I’m going now!”
“Have a safe trip,” Ruki said lazily. Just when Reita wanted to close the door from outside, Ruki called him. “Hey, Reita!”
“What now!? I’m in a hurry!” Reita answered; annoyed.
“Happy birthday, Buddy,” Ruki said with a smile.
Reita grinned. “Sankyuu!” Reita said happily as he - at last - closed the studio door from the outside.
Ruki was left there with Koron in the studio. He sighed. “I just still don’t get it… why on earth Aoi agreed to be Reita’s lover?”
+*+
Reita’s right hand won’t stop pressing the bell button while his left hand won’t stop knocking Kai’s apartment front door. Reita still won’t stop it even when he heard Kai yelled from inside of his apartment to ask him to stop doing it.
When the door was opened, Reita received a saucepan’s bottom landed nicely on his forehead. “Can you stop it already!?” Kai said; annoyed (just… how many men get annoyed easily today?). That time, Kai was still wearing his black apron and he’s still wearing his thick framed glasses, just like the one he wore in OMEGA live encore.
“Where’s Aoi?” Reita asked immediately.
Kai smacked Reita’s forehead again. This time he did it softer. He didn’t use his pan to smacked Reita’s head, but he used his palm instead. “Are you really not going to give me any greet for visiting my place?”
“This is not the first time I’m visiting your place, Kai…” Reita said as he walked passed Kai and entered his drummer’s apartment without any warning.
“Oi!?” Kai protested.
“Aoi!?” Reita looked to every corner at Kai’s apartment to find Aoi. “Hey! I bring the lighter that you entrusted to Ruki!” Reita called. “Ao-ouch!” Reita wailed when he felt the saucepan’s bottom (again) at the back of his head.
“He’s not here…” Kai said as he rubbed his pan.
“EEEH!?” Reita was surprised. “You said that he’s here!”
“Yes, he WAS here. But he’s not here NOW…”
“So, where’s he now?”
“Uruha’s place.
“WHAT!?” Reita immediately put all of his things on the sofa at Kai’s living room. He took Kai's wireless phone and took his own iPhone to check for Uruha’s number (that he hardly remembered). Then, he called Uruha with Kai’s telephone.
Kai mumbled. “If he’s in hurry, why doesn’t he just call Uruha with his OWN phone?” Kai asked, to himself, as he looked at Reita, as he scratched his un-itchy back of his head, confused.
“H-hello..?” Uruha answered with a moan. “Oh…”
“H-hey..?” Reita asked; suspicious. “W-what are y-you doing?”
“Hm..?” Uruha was sounded like he was trying to understand Reita’s question. “N-nothing… oh…”
“HEY!?!?! AOI’S THERE, RIGHT!?!? WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO HIM!?!?! AOI!! WHERE ARE YOU!?!?! URUHA!! I WANT TO TALK TO AOI!!”
“I… I’m sorry, Rei… oh… h-he… he doesn’t w-want… oh… he do-doesn’t want to talk t-to you… oh, yeah…”
“Uruha, you jerk…” Reita just throw the - poor - wireless phone to its owner who caught it steadily. “I’m going!” Reita said as he took all of his things - his sling bag and his helmet - from Kai’s sofa.
“Hei, Reita!” Kai called. “What a sec…”
“HURRY, KAAAIII! OR I WON’T MAKE IT BEFORE URUHA RAP-”
“You can’t say dirty things in my place…” Kai said as he put his saucepan’s bottom to Reita’s lips. “And you know that Uruha won’t do such a thing…” Kai then walked to his kitchen and put his pan on his dining table.
“Why won’t he!?” Reita protested. “Not until you hear Uruha’s voice by yourself, Kai! It sounded..! Like he was..! Uuurgh!!” Reita bit his own jacket.
“Don’t worry. Uruha is a gay, right?” Kai said as he put something neatly into a box and put a cover to close the box.
“Ah, yeah… you’re right…” Reita said slowly as he nodded.
Then, Reita was thinking.
Then, Reita realized something. “Wait. Aoi is a guy too, right?”
“Ah, yes. I forgot…”
“KAAAIII!!! YOU’RE NOT HELPING AT AAALL!!!”
“Ssshh!! Can you calm yourself for a moment!?” Kai said as he put the box on both of Reita’s hands. “Take this; don’t open it, and be very careful. Don’t mess it…”
“W-what’s this?” Reita asked, confused.
“You’ll find out later,” Kai said as he winked.
“But how can I take this, Kai!? I’m not taking my car with me today! How will I carry this on my motorbike?!” Reita looked at the box and the helmet on his hands.
“That’s your business,” Kai said as he smacked Reita’s forehead freely for Reita couldn’t returned the smack with his full hand.
“Hey! Stop smacking my hea-”
“I was wondering how’s Aoi right now… can you imagine what is Uruha do to him.”
Without saying anything, Reita walked away from Kai and opened Kai’s front door hardly for the box he took with him.
When Reita was exiting his door, Kai called his bassist. “Hey, Reita!” Kai stopped all Reita’s movement. “Happy birthday, Buddy!”
“Sankyuu~!” Reita answered before he closed Kai’s door from the outside (don’t know how, remembering all the things he held on both of his hands).
Kai chuckled. He then was just standing there, looking at his front door, and sighing. “What did Aoi had in his mind when he agreed to be Reita’s lover?”
*+*
“Aoi!!!” Reita called as he knocked Uruha’s apartment front door. “Aaooii!!” Reita called again - and he’s still knocking the door. “AAAAOOOIII!!!”
To Kai’s contrary, Uruha opened his front door calmer, more relaxed. But one thing that made Reita wanted to throw all the things on his hands - but he didn’t do it in the end - was after Uruha opened the door for him, he let Reita saw him zipped his pants. “Hey, Reita!” Uruha answered with a large grin on his face.
Reita took a deep breath to give all of his profanity to his childhood friend. But the bassist didn’t have the time to do it for Uruha was hurriedly covered Reita’s mouth with his hand and pulled the bassist - ‘s head - to entered his apartment. After both of them were inside Uruha’s apartment, Uruha opened Reita’s mouth.
“URUHAYOUJERK!ITHOUGHTYOU’REMYFRIEND!SOTHISISWHATYOUDIDBEHINDME!NOWWHERE’SAOI!?YOUDIDN’T-”
Uruha covered Reita’s mouth once again. “Aoi’s not here…” He opened Reita’s mouth again.
“ANDYOUTHINKIWOULDBELIEVEYOU!?YOUSAIDITTOMAKEMELEAVEYOURPLACEASSOONASPOSSIBLERIGHT!?YOU…” Reita stopped his own words. “What..?”
“Aoi… is… not… here…” Uruha repeated.
“Hee..??” Reita looked around at Uruha’s apartment, trying to find some sign about Aoi, Aoi’s things, or anything. “But Kai said earlier that…”
“He came… I mean visited my place just for a moment…” Uruha corrected his own word after it sounded wrong. Uruha then walked to the small table at his living room. “He asked me to give this to you…” Uruha said as he took two candles from the table. Those are number candles, shaped number “one” and “three”. He put those candles on Reita’s hands.
It made Reita fell silent.
Uruha smiled and sighed. “Aoi didn’t say anything to you?”
Reita shook his head slowly. “He just gave me a short messaged letter…”
“What did it tell you?”
“I can’t call him or call my apartment’s number…”
Uruha folded both of his arms in front of his body. “YOUR apartment’s number?”
“Yeah… what’s wrong?”
“And you still have no idea where could Aoi be right now?”
It gave Reita realization. “W-wait a minute… w-when did he come here?”
Uruha shrugged. “I forgot… eight o’clock?”
“That early!?” Reita was shocked. Uruha just nodded. “T-then, what exactly did you do when I call you? I… I mean… with whom exactly you’re doing it?”
Uruha blushed. “I did it alone…” he answered as he scratched his un-itchy chin.
“E-excuse me…” Reita said as he limply walked deeper to Uruha’s apartment and put all of his things - his sling bag, helmet and the box that he got from Kai - on the sofa before he sat beside his things. “You… all of you… you’re fooling me around…”
“It’s not us, Rei…” Uruha corrected. “Aoi was the one who ask us to not tell you anything about this…”
“But… what for?”
Uruha shrugged again. “Why don’t you ask him directly?”
Reita then took the paper from his inner jacket’s pocket and reread it.
...Don’t call me!! And don’t call your apartment’s number too!!...
“So… he’s in my apartment now..?” Reita asked in disbelief.
“That’s the only probability, right?”
Reita sighed. “He’s such a trouble…” Reita said as he collected his things. “Well, a cute trouble…” Reita blabbered. “Don’t let him know I said that…” Reita said as he put the candles into his sling bag, at the same place as where he put the lighter before.
“I know…” Uruha chuckled. “I understand…”
“OK,” Reita said as he put this sling bag on his shoulder before he took his helmet and the box. “I’m going home…”
“Be careful on your way home, Reita…” Uruha said as he escorted Reita to his front door. He opened the door for his bassist and let Reita focused to the things on his hands. “Hey, Reita!”
“W-what?” Reita said as he hardly wore his helmet.
“Happy birthday, Buddy!”
“Okaaay! Sankyuu!” Reita said before he continued to walk.
Uruha sighed. “Why exactly Aoi agreed to be Reita’s lover?”
*+*
Reita took a deep breath and exhaled it slowly when he faced his own apartment’s front door. His left hand was carrying the box he got from Kai, while his right hand was carrying his helmet just like a girl carrying a hamper. He constrained to do that so he could open the door by himself without any help from anyone.
What? Do you think that Aoi would do something about it? At the moment? Reita himself couldn’t even imagine it. If Aoi's “childish syndrome” was recurrence, he just won’t do anything if he won’t do it. In the end, Reita tried as far as he could to open the door.
“Aoi..?” Reita called. No answer. Reita sighed. When Reita entered and closed the door, suddenly, someone took the box from Reita’s hands. “HUWAAA!!”
“You’re so noisy…” Aoi said as he took the box to Reita’s living room.
“A-Aoi..?”
“Hurry! Close the door! And bring the candles and the lighter here!” Aoi yelled.
“O-okay!” Reita hurriedly close his door and opened his shoes - one thing he didn’t do when he entered Kai’s and Uruha’s place earlier. He quickly approached Aoi with his sling bag and put it on his sofa. He opened his bag and took the said candles and lighter. When Reita gave the candles and the lighter to Aoi, Reita fell silent when he saw Aoi opened the box from Kai.
It’s a birthday cake. It made from chocolate, and it had decorations from vanilla cream. The “Happy B’Day, REITA” writing on top of the cake was a bit blotted.
“It’s… blotted…” Reita said. “Ouchawawaw! I’m sooorryyy~ aaaaaw!!” Reita yelled when Aoi pinched his stomach tightly. “Ouch! It hurts, Aooiii…” Reita rubbed his stomach at the spot where Aoi pinched earlier. Reita then pulled his shirt up a bit to see the swollen skin. “Aaaoooiii~! It’s turning bluuueee~!?”
Aoi was shocked, panic, and immediately rubbed the swollen skin at Reita’s stomach. “It’s your fault…”
“I thought that Kai made it!”
Aoi looked at Reita; annoyed. “So you think it’s obvious if the cake I made is blotted!?” Aoi asked; pouting, and then he’s standing, taking the cake with him.
“No, no, no! Don’t! Stop!” Reita held both of Aoi’s hands. He took the cake from Aoi’s hand and put it back on the table. “I want this…” This time, Reita pouted.
Aoi smacked Reita’s forehead before he’s busying himself with the candles and the lighter.
“Ouch! Cut it out already! Why all of you love to smack my head that much?!”
“It’s because you have a cute head…” Aoi answered as he put the “one” candle and the “three” candle on top of the cake.
“Aoi…”
“WHAT!?” Aoi snapped.
“I-it’s reversed…”
Aoi looked at the candles and instantly his face turned red. He immediately switched the numbers position, from “thirteen” to “thirty-one”.
Reita just stayed in silence as he saw Aoi lights the candles.
When Aoi was done with it and looked at Reita, the blush returned to his face. “What is it..?”
“Nothing…” Reita said with a smile. He then move closer to Aoi and leant his face closer to Aoi’s face.
Aoi immediately covered Reita’s mouth with his hand. “The candles are there…” Aoi said as he pointed to the cake. “Say your prayers first before blowing the candle…”
Reita pouted again. But when he saw the cake, the smile returned to his face. The candles were already melted a bit. Reita then closed his eyes and started to say his prayers, wishes and hopes in his heart and mind. After he’s done with it, he opened his eyes, and blew the candles until the tiny fires die out.
Aoi clapped his hands. “Tanjoubi omedetou!” Aoi exclaimed cheerfully as he stretched his arms.
“Arigatou,” Reita welcomed the stretched arms and replied it with a hug. It’s one of his favorite moments to be able to hug his lover like this. He closed his eyes and enjoyed the moment for awhile. While doing it, Reita asked, “By the way… why are you fooling me around?”
“Hah!?” Aoi was shocked. “Mm… that’s… uh…”
“Since when did you get here? In my apartment?”
“Since… mm… I’m d-done with t-the cake…” Aoi answered nervously.
“You went to Kai’s place after you entrusted all of those things to Ruki and Uruha?”
“Y-yeah…”
Reita broke the hug and stare straightly, deeply into Aoi’s eyes.
“R-Rei..?” Aoi asked; suspicious.
“Punishment for bad boy…” Reita said before he pushed Aoi and made his lover fell down onto the carpet. Reita lay on top of Aoi and opened Aoi’s shirt buttons one by one.
“R-Reita..! Ooeeeiii!!”
“Hooo…” Suddenly, there were three known voices from behind Reita.
Reita turned, and with Aoi, they saw the three people: Kai, Uruha, and Ruki.
“It looks fun. What are you guys doing?” Uruha asked with his naughty smirk.
“GET OOOUUUT, THE THREE OF YOOOUUU!!!” Reita screamed in frustration.
