Political (?) Rant

It occurs to me that all the whooping and hollering about "race" is a distraction. And it's extremely effective. Because, boy are we distracted. We're distracted from what's really going on: the gradual takeover of our country by corporations. Dwight Eisenhower warned the country about the military industrial complex way back in the 1950s. Nobody listened. Except for the military industrial complex.

It's my contention that the dismantling of this country started with Ronald Reagan's administration. The whole purpose of his tenure was to castrate the various federal agencies' power to regulate various industries: financial, energy, trade. They had great success. Perhaps, the roller-coaster ride began with their union-busting antics with the air traffic controllers' dispute and snowballed from there.

It's appalling to me that we think it's okay to denigrate whole ethnicities of people for daring to ask for an apology and perhaps some small compensation for the hundreds of years of torture we, as a nation, put them through. Three come to mind immediately: the native Americans, the African Americans, the Japanese. How did this nation of "give me your poor, your huddled masses" treat those people?

This country has seemed to always need its boogey men from the very beginning. The Redcoats are coming! The Chinese are coming! The Irish are coming! Oh, damn. Them uppity Negroes, just freed, are coming! Don't look now, but them damned Ruskies are pointing nuke-lee-yar weapons at us! Look out, it's the North Koreans! No! It's Saddam Hussein with his non-existent WMD!!! And Afghanistan! OMG!!! Don't forget Iran!!! Oh, and now it's that socialist Obama and who knows where he was born???

What the HELL is wrong with us that we pee ourselves over every little threat that may or may not COMPLETELY DESTROY OUR WAY OF LIFE??? What happened to our resolve? Our bravery? Our can-do attitude? Our compassion? It seems as if today's motto is Every Man for Himself and the Devil Take the Hindmost. Disgusting.

Okay, fine. Look to your own coffers. Make sure you've got what's coming to you. But, when you're munching on those tasty tasty one-hundred dollar bills, let me know how that works out for you. I hear fiber is good for the diet.
