I just got off the phone with the folks back home.  My mom just got back from dropping my youngest sister off at an evacuation center with lots of bottled water.  Instead of worrying about missing homecoming, my little sister is volunteering at one of the evacuation centers.  I'm so proud of her.  In the meantime, her school campus has been turned ( Read more... )

This post made me cry - I know I grumble about California sometimes but the people here really do come through when needed. :)

They really do. :D Every place has its problems, and SD's problems have been getting a lot of press lately, but I kinda love how this is a big fat raspberry in the face of all those haters who call SoCal superficial and selfish. When it comes down to it, we're seeing tough, matter of fact people with their priorities in the right place, and an amazing outpouring of generosity and grace in the face of adversity, not whining.

A girl in my service group this week has family in San Francisco, so we've been doing our best to keep up with it (not easy away from computers and stuff). I'll pray for your family too.

Thank you for your prayers. My dad had to leave town for a while because he's sensitive to air quality issues, but other than that, everyone I've gotten in touch with is safe and well.

I remember when my parents went through the last serious wildfires (they lived in the No. part of San Diego County, the smidge of Carlsbad just next to Encinitas) Scary times, well-handled.

I've been keeping stoutfellows' family in my prayers: I'll be sure to add yours' to my "god bless" es.
