[Voice;]
Ok since we now know about different universes, I want to hear people's ideas on what's going on in their own alternate universe. Cos, hey, it could- [Voice has gone a bit deeper and he coughs] it could exist! And what if we looked different too? Like blue hair, or there could even be a girl version of you out there! Man, this is hurting

What do you think things are like in our alternate universe, Rin?

I suppose it would depend on whether the war was still on - whether there were hidden villages at all. I'd like to think there's a world where Konoha is at peace. Well, we know we will have it in the future, the time of Naruto-san and the rest, I mean.
But real peace. Where nobody would have to fight anymore.
It's possible; I mean, there could be any number of possible "our worlds" out there, couldn't there?

Naruto said he saw sensei yesterday, during that weird curse where some people could see their fathers.
I wish we could have talked to him.

Private, same date
Yes, I saw that. Poor Naruto-san, he was really upset.
Yes... me too.
It's hard... knowing what will happen to him.

I wonder if... we're there with him, when it happens. Why wouldn't we be, right? Unless we're on the other side of the village, getting villagers to safety. I don't know how much warning there is, maybe it's a standard help who you find situation. I'm betting they put ANBU and jounins on the front line against a demon like that. But maybe there's an opening for a chuunin to make a difference. If he has the right back up. Now we know, maybe we can change things.

I think they will definitely need everyone to fight. But I don't think...
I'm not sure we can change the future like that, Obito-kun.
I...
It's hard to think about.
[hahaha she's sniffling now. In yer face Angst!bito.]

[Typing away into his device while in the kitchen, making a sandwich. Adding a generous dollop of mayonnaise before patting down the top slice of bread. This is truly the best sandwich in this - or any other - universe. He's been concerned about his voice doing weird and unpredictable things for the last couple days, and Shikamaru really didn't help, but he's not about to avoid his teammate. Plus they share a room, so that would be difficult. Carrying through his late-night snack, he opens the door and continues their conversation.]
I'm gonna change the future, I promise. There are a lot of things I'm gonna do while I'm at it.
[Sits down on the bed and is about to eat, when he looks closely at her.]
Hey, are you ok?

She's not about to tell him Kakashi makes jounin and he never does. She's been trying very hard to forget that part. She almost succeeds some days.
She gives him a weak smile and wipes a stray tear from her cheek.]
Yeah. It's just, thinking about Sensei dying, it's so sad. Even- even if he does save everyone.
[So not going to think about who else that applies to... No, failed. It's cruel, having him sitting right next to her eating a sandwich that's dripping with grease as usual, when she knows it's a lie, it's not real. She could go back at any time, or he could.]
I don't think there's much you can't do if you really put your mind to it, Obito-kun.
[She has to focus, like Sensei taught her. They're here, now, and that's what counts.]

It's like a fake comfort, knowing he dies a hero. Because he still dies.
[His conversation with Sasuke is playing on his mind. Uchiha Mikoto, from a different universe, a happy one. One where the massacre hadn't happened. Did that mean he'd actually succeeded?]
Look, I've got to tell you something. It's about what I found out, when I came here.

Y-yeah.
[She swallows and nods, glancing to the side, ready for him to speak.]

In the future, in ten years, something like that, something happens to the Uchiha clan. One of my cousins, he, well- [There isn't an easy way to say this; he talks down to his hands, picking at an old scar on his thumb.] He kills everyone. In one night. Except for Sasuke, Naruto and Sakura's teammate. Thirteen years old and he wipes out our strongest fighters. I don't know how he does it, didn't ask for details, you know?
[He looks at her with resolve, hoping she'll be comforted by his determination. He believes every word he says.]
That's what I have to change. I think that's why I was brought here. So I could find out about the massacre and stop it.
[He's leaving things out, because it's too much to take in all at once. The Sasuke mess can be left until another day, or she might find out from someone else. And he's also leaving out how he thinks he might die in this massacre. ( ... )

So in a way he knows he's going to die... And he's alright, he can bear it. Just like he does - did - will do when...
It's too confusing. So she just smiles through the tears.]
M-maybe you can change the future.
[And lower, because it's the truth and he deserves to hear it:]
If anyone can change the future, it's probably you, Obito-kun.

Please don't cry, Rin.
[Then it's quiet and he doesn't want it to be sad and painful any more. He general fix-all is to keep talking, so that's what he does. He hopes his nonsense will keep her mind off things, even if it's only for a short time.]
Hey, do you think there's another universe where I wear a mask over my face and I'm the big hot-shot? And Kakashi wears goggles and keeps messing stuff up? That'd be pretty funny, huh?
Reply
And you keep reminding him of Shinobi Rule 34 and sleep in your mask as well.

And you're not a medic nin, what's the opposite of that? Like, you could be a weapons specialist, all about destroying the opponent instead of putting your comrades back together! I don't think our team would be half as good without you.
[That...that had just slipped out and sounded more heartfelt than he'd meant to.]
Cos who doesn't love medic nins, right?
[Goddamnit, he'd been trying to laugh it off and he'd used the word love. He decided his plant from Fai-chan needed watering, right that second. He walked over to the windowsill so she wouldn't see him blushing.]
