This hurricane shit is hitting me hard. Over 500 refugees are coming to Athens this week, and there's no telling what will come of it, given that these people will be staying in a university gym for at least 4 months, probably with shitty food, miles from home, nothing to do, most likely under heavy police surveillance, no jobs... A group of us are getting together this week to work on refugee support, like expanding food not bombs, acting in solidarity with the displaced radical people of color groups trying to sort shit out down there, etc. Also putting together some info. for distributing around town, to seize the moment when the criminality of capitalism is being brutally exposed. Unrest will start to spread across the southeast, wherever these victimized people are being herded. Coupled with the gas gouging, there's a huge potential for radicals to channel this discontent right now into challenging the pillars of the system.
Also, I started substitute teaching. I was "Mr. Ben" to 12 kindergardeners last week. I felt like Detective John Kimball at times, but overall I really enjoyed it. Tomorrow I fill in for an elementary school music teacher. Rhythm sticks oh yeah!
We have 2 new kittens. My house feels like a zoo. Feeding time is crazy- we have to separate our 2 old school cats, the 2 kittens, the dog, and the inside/outside cat, all of who are desperately hungry it seems, and do all they can to trip me up.
