being in a band... (whiny post alert!)

Being in a band can be... interesting. Especially now with the constant start/stop, yes/no, on/off nature of covid era we are in. Getting ready for shows, and then everything stopping....

I put out a surf guitar album under an alias (chillingsworth surfingham) I recorded mostly by myself (the drummer from my band drummed on it) and it was challenging and rewarding and a great time. We got to play some shows, and I've been looking forward to more. I drafted my existing band (the bobbleheads) to play these shows and they graciously agreed. The shows (when they were not postponed) were a blast. Some of the guys want to do more of the bobbleheads stuff... but I am not ready to say goodbye to my alter ego. I do understand though that the side project isn't what they signed on for. It's been surprising that this side project/experiment has been far more "successful" than anything else I've ever put out. ("successful" is in quotes because it's not like I'm making money on this or anything!) (also... who knew the secret to getting more attention and people into my music was NOT having my face or name on the project! LOL) I want to do more music like this. BUT... I also like my band, and the stuff we have been doing.

I was hoping everyone would be stoked about things.

I have a bunch of stockpiled songs for the bobbles... so we can do that. I can still work up stuff for chillingsworth... if I have to I can get other guys in for the side project band, but that just feels like so much work, and the guys in my band are all really great! UGHH!

I'll try and do both, but that can be hard. I am lucky in that my career is in music, but being creative at work (k-5 music) and then being creative on two fronts with original music seems daunting.

I guess we'll see? They don't have to happen at the same time of course. Of course I am wanting to have my cake and eat it too here. Mmmmmm... cake.
