Tree found a big feather in my in-laws' yard yesterday. It's probably from the local falcon, or else an abnormally huge house sparrow. We added it to the collection. I spoke with Tree's team leader, counselor and asst. principal, so now I have a better idea of how things work and how I can help Tree to do her best, such as the homework hotlines. It's a big adjustment for all of us, but I know we'll get through it.
I put together my GenCon outfit tonight. I was going to wear the Deadly Disco outfit, but I need heel guards for the platform shoes, plus it's an outfit that is only meant to be worn for a few hours. So I'm going to wear my velvet skirt, high-heeled boots, satin shell and lace cover blouse. I need to find some pantyhose or stockings tomorrow so plan to shop with Tree after work. Since it will be a long day on Saturday, I want to be comfortable. During my commute walks I've noticed a lot of folks who are already here for the con. You can tell who they are, usually by their badges, but more often just by looking at them. Hope it's a fun time for all.
I wrote a little statement about the tattoo I want to get, what I want it to be and why. Here it is:
My Tattoo!
I want my tat to be a winged cat (possibly Celtic style, if possible, with knots; not too fancy) flying with a small tree growing out of the end of its tail and a lightning bolt in one of its paws. I don't want a lot of color, probably just black and maybe some grey or silver highlighting or shading if that can give it a nice effect.
I chose my totem animal, the winged cat, not only because I love them, but also because the cat possesses a spirit of independence and mystery and holds secrets that we will never know. A cat is her own "person" and won't let anyone change her. She is herself at all times, no matter what. The cats' wings represent my descent out of the depths of depression four years ago and my flight toward my dreams of writing, finishing college and being a person that my daughter can look up, my husband will love and others will remember long after I'm gone from this world.
The small, growing tree represents my daughter. She is growing out of my tail because she is a part of me. I also chose a tree because her name is Theresa and "Tree" is one of her nicknames that I call her by a lot.
The lightning bolt represents my husband, Ronnie. One of his nicknames in high school was "Lightning" because he loved to watch storms, play his guitar "like lightning" and draw lightning bolts all over the place. We still have wooden pants hangers with little bolts carved into them. The cat holding the bolt represents my bond with my husband and shows that I will never let him go. It also symbolizes how he has been a powerful guiding force in my life, helping me lift myself out of darkness and learn how to fly on my own and learn that the key to loving others is loving myself first.
I've attached a few pictures to help inspire the artist who creates my tattoo.
