Good Things, both large and small

* It's October! I think I love October. September is so hectic, but things settle into a groove in October, and everything is a little easier.

* I got my DNA profile results back tonight and there are no great surprises (i.e. I am 46% Ashkenazi Jewish, which.... sounds about right, and 99% European, which also sounds about right). Lots of crunchy data to dig around in and play with though. Fascinating.

* I have been following a Jewish genealogy group on Facebook in which a lot of people post photos of gravestones looking for Hebrew translations. Now, I don't really read Hebrew - or Yiddish, for that matter - but I do know the alphabet at least, and I have found that after a few days of looking carefully, I can usually at least figure out the names. (It helps that there is usually English on the stone as well, as a sort of cross-check.) I am pleased by this evidence of my linguistic ability - if I apply myself, maybe I can figure out even more! It's kind of cool.

* My chorus started, and it is kicking my butt, but it is soooooo good to be back in there! It's amazing how much muscle memory there is - I cannot slouch while singing: the piano starts, and I straighten up - and it's amazing how much it works my brain and in such good/different ways. My voice is out of shape, but I am hopeful that I will regain all those high notes and be back in fighting form.

* I am starting an online course - just for the month - about juvenile series books, and it should be a good chance to geek out with other librarian types about Nancy Drew and that sort of thing ALL MONTH. With my peeps. Yeah.

* There is a YA author panel tomorrow night at the Mothership, talking about writing for young adults, and publishing and good stuff, and I am totally psyched and cannot wait.

* My kid continues to be a super-duper rock star.
