Feb-tunes

Here we go... My FEB-o-lous mix. . (yeah so this is my first ever html experience, let me know if i suck). ten songs i think you need to spend your pepsi caps on, or at least 99 cents. in reverse alphabetical order:

The Futureheads - "Hounds Of Love" //The Futureheads// It seems like as time goes on, reinventions of the past seem to grow closer and closer to the present. Take the darkness as an example, or church of axe for that matter. The futureheads are in this category and recreate a sound painstakingly similar to that of the smiths, (although i cant help noticing the similarities to "London Calling"). ok, that sounded like some rollingstones trash if ive ever heard it before. essentially, this song is catchy and very recommendable.

The Elected - "Greetings in Braile" //Me First// i dont really know where this song came from, i just kinda have it. i think i got it free from pitchfork a while ago or something, but they have a really cool sound. unique vocals, kinda folksy, some good harmonica, but still enough drums to keep you interested. im not real sure about the lyrics, but i do know that this is one of those songs you have to keep yourself from listening to because if you keep putting it on repeat like you have been for the past week, you know you'll get sick of it. funny thing is that hasnt happened yet.

Interpol - "Untitled" //Turn on the Bright Lights// I used to not see what the big deal was with these guys, but the more i listen the more i want. Interpol is to me, the strokes, but highly listenable because of their talent and good production.
This great song kicks off a string of many greats, all of which i had trouble choosing between. being an intro song though, this greatly describes their sound pretty great.

Kings of Convenience - "Misread" //Riot On an Empty Street// So whats with all the foreign guys getting popular singing in english? These three norwegians can best be described as Air unplugged. This cd is a great one to study or fall asleep to, which i have also discovered can go dangerously go from one to the other.

Cat Power - "Nude as the News" //What Would the Community Think// This is another acquisition anomaly. I keep coming back to artists like Cat Power and Azure Ray because Gileah wont release another cd (or at least i dont know about it). This song also has some random lyrics, but i like the sound. Its good for something different.

Pinback - "Syracuse" //Summer In Abbadon// One of the best things about this band is that i really can't think of anybody to relate them to. This song is a great example of how Pinback is able to take sounds that are extremely simple and build them into something complex, yet beautiful. This is an awesome cd, just like their earlier release "blue screen life."

Iron and Wine - "Peng!" //i-tunes exclusive ep// I couldnt believe my ears when i heard this. Sam Beam covering Stereolab? You better believe that it works too, and how. this is also a good song to snag due to the itunes exclusiveness.

Junior Senior - "Move Your Feet" //D-D-Don't Stop the Beat// here is the up-beat dance track of the mix. If you like feeling like dancing and you like feeling great and you like michael jackson, i guarantee you will like this song. im not exactly sure why its explicit though, the words are pretty much straight from the MJ song. the video is pretty weird, but entertaining, if you ever get the chance, you can find it on itunes too.

Handsome Boy Modelling School feat. Del Tha Funkee Homosapian - "The World's Gone Mad" //White People// here is the hip-hopable song. i heard about these guys because of their nice jack johnson hit, which you may have heard (also a good cappable song). HBMS is a couple of guys who produce a lot of hip hop stuff and this cd is packed with celebrities; Cat Power, John Oates, and even the RZA and Mars Volta on the same song, just to name a few. i know you dont believe me but see for yourself. Anyways, i couldnt say no to Del's infectious sound. (you might recognize him from the Gorillaz hit "clint eastwood")

Weezer - "Jamie" //Weezer (Deluxe Edition)// You ever wake up at 5 in the morning and think you have to get up, then look at the clock and realize how great it is going to be to sleep in for a couple more hours? Just when you think that blue album sound will never be recreated, here come some b sides. i know these have been out for a while, but if you are like me, you arent about to spend 20 bucks on a cd you have had memorized for 10 years. enter pepsi caps on the songs you dont have. enjoy. ps, there is an acoustic version of this song which is also way sweet, but there was already too much acoustic on here. i needed to fill it in with some early nineties bedroom rock.

casey out.
