A warmer Thursday

The weather is getting a little bit more like the seasonal norm with fewer rain showers and more sunshine which is rather nice. This weekend is supposed to be a lot warmer which will be very welcome.

Yesterday I spent the whole day in the glass studio. This was not the plan - by lunchtime I'd finished the three orders for Etsy, and I was just getting ready to pack them up when I noticed that there was a hairline crack in one part of the glass of the mirror I'd made. This was even more frustrating as I'd ended up making two of the mirrors already because I'd realised the first time I'd used the incorrect colour of copper tape to solder it together.

To explain - the tape has three different backing colours - copper, silver and black. If you have clear or certain opaque glasses the backing colour will show through the glass. So if you are making something that has silver solder you need silver coloured tape, if you are going to treat the solder with a patina to make it a grey/black, you use black. Opaque glass you can get away with using copper backed tape. I'd accidentally used the copper, and the white glass I had used in the mirror was not as opaque as I thought so the copper backing showed as a pinkish colour through the glass. It looked all wrong so I made a second mirror.

Looks better..... The crack in the other one was really hard to see as it was in a white section - such a pain!

So the afternoon was spent remaking the mirror yet again (third time lucky). It was quicker to make a new one than to try and unmake the original one (I would have had to dissassemble the whole thing to replace the one part that was cracked).  I got it finished just in time for us to go out for a Nordic walk which helped uncrick my back and neck from making glass so that was good.

This morning I had the penultimate online Understanding Paintings lesson - this week it was about Henri Matisse. I was familiar with his later paintings, but it was really interesting to see how his style changed over his lifetime and how he didn't really stick to one style for very long. He was very controversial and vilified by many of his contemporaries, and when you realise how different his work was you can see why. It was a good lesson and I enjoyed it.

After lunch I wrapped up the Etsy items and when Mr Cee finished work at 2.30pm we walked down to the Post Office to send those off. I'm really hoping the mirror is well received as it's involved a few messages from the buyer as she wanted it in specific colours, so I'm really hopeful that she likes it and it matches her wallpaper (she sent me a photo of it!).

Later there will be Pilates - Mr Cee at the 5.30pm and I'm at the 6.30pm lesson. I might change it next week if she can fit me in as now that my Art Appreciation class has stopped for the summer I can do a lesson on Tuesday mornings which might be easier and involve less to-ing and fro-ing with both cars.

I have questions:

26. What was your favorite book you had to read for school?
I must admit I didn't have a favourite as the ones I had to study you had to really study to death as there were exams.  For example we had to read Charles Dicken's "Dombey and Son" which is definitely NOT my favourite of Dickens' work and I hated it by the time we finished the exams.

27. Last wedding attended?
Good grief! That would have been almost 27 years ago - a friend of Mr Cee's got married in Sterling Castle in Scotland (very posh!) and we drove up there.

Having had very low numbers of infection the numbers started to climb again locally which was worrying. They are slowly going down again, so as we are now officially fully vaccinated I'm less worried about the covidiots out there, but I am sorry for anyone who still hasn't had a vaccination yet (or who can't have one for health reasons).
