Day 277 since the first lock down - Christmas Eve

Dec 24, 2020 16:20

Christmas Eve means preparations for the feast tomorrow and that hasn't changed, and I doubt would have changed if it was only the two of us as I really like to make the food a little more interesting than a regular roast dinner. So I have prepared the vegetables (potatoes, parsnips, brussel sprouts, carrots) and I've cheated and bought the trimmings like stuffing and pigs in blankets because they are too fiddly. We will make bread sauce and gravy tomorrow, and I have a turkey 'crown' as that's about the right amount for us.

Tonight we are having a salmon fillet stuffed with prawns and lemon marscapone with new potatoes and salad (well we are, Youngest Cee wants peas with his). All very easy as you just slam it in the oven which suits me today. Our Pilates teacher has sent us some pre-recorded lessons if we want to exercise over the next few days as our classes don't start up again until 4th January (on Zoom of course!). We may well do some of them as we really miss exercising when she takes time off :)

Other than that I've not really done very much other than chatting to Youngest Cee which has been nice. Mr Cee was working this morning, so he was busy.  We are relaxing now though and trying to catch up on some of the TV Christmas specials that we've recorded over the last few days....

Time for a quick question: 24 Do you prefer to receive money/gift cards or an actual gift?
I do understand that sometimes it's easier for someone to give you a gift card or money, and I'd rather have that than someone buying me something they think I'd like when I'd really not (and I'm grateful if someone remembers my birthday or wants to give me a gift any time really). My in-laws always give us money, which is fine as in the past when the children were very small it was incredibly handy to be able to buy them a nice set of shoes or something that we couldn't afford (they adored those trainers with the flashing lights in the soles but they were really expensive!). Now we just give the boys some money on their behalf (they always send us the cheque for all of us) as they like to choose something nice in the sales after Christmas.

🎄

It remains for me to wish everyone the best day they can have tomorrow.  It won't be the same as it's been in the past for any of us, but I really hope you can find time to connect to friends and/or family during the day.

Remember this is only one day, and although 2021 will not be back to normality for us as quickly as we might hope, it will eventually ease as we get more people vaccinated and the virus gets more under control (I'm crossing everything here!).  In the meantime I shall check in tomorrow and comment to anyone who posts so please don't think you will be alone on Christmas Day if you'd like to post about your day I'll do my best to connect with you!
