5 days to Christmas (day 273 back in full lockdown)

Dec 20, 2020 14:16

Yesterday we got a bit of  shock at 4pm as there was an announcement that our area would go into Tier 4 - the most severe lockdown from midnight. This was unexpected but apparently this variant of Covid19 is spreading very fast and threatening to overwhelm the hospitals. Already our local hospital is cancelling routine operations and health care, which is worrying. Under the cut for a graphic detailing what we can and can't do (mostly for me to remember this).  The rules will be reviewed on 30th December.

Having listened to the Prime Minister explaining this we decided to drive down to see Eldest Cee as our planned excursion to see him on Sunday would be considered illegal and worthy of a fine if we were caught. So at 4.30pm we set off through torrential rain to the coast to see him. We ended up having a conversation for about 20 minutes outside (he's in Tier 2 which is a lot more relaxed and open than we've been lately).  We'd taken down his Christmas gifts along with some tinsel and a tiny desk top Christmas tree so he can decorate his flat, and he gave us gifts to bring home with us. We got home about 8.30pm having grabbed a sandwich at the service station on the way home and topped up the electric car (£2.81 for a quick 15 minute top up which gave us an extra 30 miles).  It was good to see him. There were massive traffic jams near Gatwick airport (we drive past there on the way to the coast) - we learned later that people had panicked and set out to get out of the UK last night (covidiots!) - there was severe overcrowding at all the railway stations too *sigh*.

Today I woke up a 5am and I couldn't get back to sleep. I think all this has been worrying me and my sleep always gets disturbed if I'm worried. I got up and the cats were delighted to see me LOL!  We did some tidying once Mr Cee got up and then watched the Strictly final which we'd missed (yay for the winner!).

Later in the morning we had a long phone conversation with Youngest Cee about whether he should come and stay with us. As he lives alone we've decided that we aren't breaking rules as we can be his 'bubble' and he's been very careful over the last week or so. He's changed plans to go to GF(P)s house after leaving us as he doesn't want to expose her Mum to any potential infection. I'm actually quite proud about how he's thought it all out. So he'll come over on Wednesday and stay until just after Christmas.

It's been a sunny day but cold day today so just before lunchtime we went for a long walk and now we've had lunch and we're going to watch a film.

Just time for the 365 question:
20 What TV game show would you be really good at?
I don't think I'd be very good at a game show. I have a lot of 'missing' knowledge - I don't follow much sport or the soaps and there always seem to be questions about those in most game shows. Mind you, I usually get the high brow questions in Richard Osman's House of Games which surprises me, so maybe I should be on that?  Enough diversity to get a few points to stack up before I fail miserably on the questions I don't know.
