I'm still a Michigander at heart

I haven't done a fun entry in a while, and I liked this one, so I yoinked it from beatgirl.

OK, so if you go to Google and type in "You know you're from (your state) when..." you'll get the following results... (I bolded the items that apply to me.)

for Michigan )

i'm kinda embarassed about some of the ohio ones, but I had to learn about the serpent mounds in ohio history class, i definately had halloween costumes made to fit over snow suits, i sometimes end my sentences with unneccessary prepositions, and my local paper definately uses more pages on sports.

oh and as for the michigan ones, how have you never refered to a michigan left, those things had to have been about the craziest thing i had to get used to up there, why can't you people just turn left at a light like normal people :)

Our part of Michigan doesn't really have "Michigan lefts"; I can only think of one in all of Kalamazoo county.

(For those who don't know, a "Michigan left" is where the street is set up such that instead of making a left, you have to make a right followed by a U-turn.)

They have those in New Jersey, but they call them "jughandles".

A Michigan left is different from a jug handle, except they are both pains in the tuxus. A Michigan left entails driving past the intersection, making a U-turn (as Ran said) at a designated spot in the median, and then turning right where you initially wanted to turn left.

But yeah, that's mainly for stupid Detroiters.

Ah. I do that sometimes at home. All of the lights at home are on a ridiculously long cycle, so if I'm in a rush and I just missed the left turn signal, I'll go straign and U-turn.
