Planning failure

I’m having a planner fail. I can’t tell if it’s because they don’t really work for how I plan things or if I’m bring willfully stubborn. I backed the Passion Planner kickstarter, as a few friends loved the ones they used last year. The whole idea is not only to schedule but to also work on goals or different plans or, well, your passion.

I think I’ve mentioned I’m not a person who really HAS a passion. Unless reading and eating snacks falls into that category?

Anyway, I decided to change! So I sat down to plot out one thing I want to accomplish this year and then did the planning steps recommended and entered things into the planner and then . . . ground to a halt. And that’s where I’m wondering if my stubbornness is getting in my way. Don’t you tell me how to do things! Fuck off with your weekly “themes”! But I think it’s also because I don’t really have huge life goals or long term ideas or stuff like that Hello! This is why I have never gotten off my ass to try and get into a career and now I’m regretting it!. Also, long term plans make me twitch! I’m a terrible trip planner, too.

On a more practical sense the planner just doesn’t really work with how I like to lay things out. Sure, I want days with time blocks, but I’d also like each day to have a to-do list section. There is a section for weekly work or personal to-dos/errands, but I want a daily place for those things. I like lists, and I like checking them off. There are also end of month round up areas where you can write about how you worked on your passions and plans. I ignored January’s. And there seems to be a focus on plotting out your days, and since my M-F are spent at a very boring and repetitive job where there’s no need to block out my time. We could really use a project management platform at work but I can’t get anyone else on board, and I’ve found that unless I’m using it as part of a team I just ignore it.

Now, I do like the idea of having stickers and colored pens and highlighters and such, but that just might be my love of office supplies. Someone I follow on Instagram has reposted a collage pic of other people’s planner pics, and they make everyone look so accomplished and organized and goal-oriented! Also, man, people love inspirational quotes.

I’m going to try again, but I’m also going to keep my eye out for a planner that feels less . . . judgmental. Maybe a Moleskin? I tend to find their binding to be too stiff.
