At first when I read it, I thought your "ichinensei" meant first grade (elementry). That kinda got me confused.. but yeah, I bet you saw more then I did.. I mean, I went to ASIJ, which is American School in Japan so it had to be better, or different, then real Japanese schools. Even then, you went to O-berin right? I think that they are too, a little bit better then some other total Japanese schools.. (but then again, if you look down there is whole lot worse in any case.. so..)

One of the things that made me very surprised that they don't care what it is, as long as that person is different. One article I read was about a girl who had allergies. She couldn't drink tea like the other kids so she had to drink juice. And that became the reason why she was picked on.

What the fuck? She can't help it at all, and yet that it what they chose to pick on!! It's more of something to feel sorry for, not to make fun of her... and the other would proabbly be the case where couple of 3rd grade students lynched one kid to death.

Every body knows somethings wrong. Adults say that 17 is the worst age because that's when kids kill people, and they say how they get pissed off ("kireru") so easily.. and so on and so forth, but the truth is that we don't know why it is so. We don't know how to "fix" this problem. All I can say is that their school system is fucked up.. Most likely it is their cultural tendensy to bond together and be as same as possible, but what are they afraid of? What makes it be so extreme? Are they bored out of their mind that they have to go on and lynch people?? Is it sooo scary to be different?

Day and night they pack in USELESS information in their head just to get good grades in tests, and go to a good college which leads to good company... Is that it? Is that all they are living for? Maybe they quite it all. Maybe nothing is worth anything, their life is just to live for, not to live for something but just the sheer fact to exist. Maybe there is nothing to look forward to. Maybe there is no "good job" after the series of torturous tests and exams. Maybe they'll all die alone without anyone to look after them in an apartment.

Nothing to look forward to is the worst feeling in life. Maybe that's what it is.. maybe it isn't... An outsider like me would never know, and would I ever want to know?

wow.. that was a big rant.. sorry Casey.

and yet at the same time you can go there as a foreighner and be the most popular person at school. i think that japanese school systems need to loose the "pass or fail" system and mabey tensions wouldn't run so high. i got really pissed in class today anyway. we had an argument day and all evreyone else cared to talk about were things that didn't matter. so i bring up genocide in sudan and nobody knew about it or cared. i was trying to make the point that if it doesn't happen to white people than nobody cares but i was completley blown off.
