On the Other Side of the Moon

I never liked Paris.
My first time here was a truly bad experience.
I got spit at in the train by a black french man in the depth of winter.
Imagine my black winter coat stained with that white slimy stuff.
It was a horrid experience.

Revisiting Paris, my experience was just as bad.. at least at first..
Rude, Prejudiced, Racist... you name it..
My 1st day @ LV was greeted by an unsmiling woman.
Stuck-up and not helpful at all.
In a way, they are worse than russians!

But it is the land where liberty was born afterall.
So i took the 2nd day with a different mindset.

Went back to LV and approached the same woman.
It was as if she could sense the change in vibes and became very friendly.
We even chatted, she told me she had sore throat due to the air-conditioning and having to talk to many people.
Adviced her to drink more water as i left.

@ Prada, there was a lot of paparazzi in front of the store.
Approached one of the them to find out wat's going on.
They told me there is a Hollywood Star inside!
It's Lindsay Lohan!
Okie, i'm no big fan, and she's not really pretty pretty, but she definitely has star quality.

On the way back there was a mini ceremony @ the Arc de Triomphe Etoile.
Not knowing what's going on, i asked one of the bystanders.
He was kind to let us know that it's a ceremony to commemorate the fallen soldiers.
To notice the many different countries' flags
and that there's a eternal fire that's always burning in the arc.

Coming back, there is no free gym @ the hotel, so decided to go for a run instead.
It was really exhiliarating to run in the cool weather of 22degC,
To the Eiffel Tower.
Those who run seem to have all the fun!
Halfway, approached a woman @ the bus-stop for directions.
She pointed me in the right way.
Looks like french people are not as hostile as thought to be.

When i reached there i was like wow..
It's not my first time there but it's definitely a way better experience!
in my running attire, i kinda stood out from the crowd.
Glad to know am not the only one around there. =)

I rested on the steps of the Palais de Chaillot.
In the cool autumn nite, i laid back on the marble floor,
looking at the nite sky, the Eiffel Tower in her gold splendor, and the moon..
as i reflect and contemplate..

The beacon on the tower seem to spin continuously.
On her body with a golden hue,
She's like a beacon of hope.
Shining out in the dark.
As i sat there mesmerised by her beauty..
In that quiet moment,
peace sets in.

It was getting cold, and i did something totally uncharacteristic.
i asked the guy next to me for a ciggie.
Somehow the one he had been holding hasn't been lit,
while the one his fren is having is almost done.
So he casually passed it to me.
Hmm, it's the best one i ever had.

As i inhaled the weed, the woman next to me started talking,
asking me when the stars will come on.
It's probably on the hour, i said.
She told me she's been here many times but first time here with beau.
I said her boyfriend will definitely enjoy it.

Time ticked and the crowd started getting larger.
The excitement is slowly building up..
you could feel it getting stronger and stronger..

And in a sudden, the golden tower glitted in starbursts!
As the crowd cheered and clapped. =)

I lingered on for just a little.
And soon turned and started jogging back.
Somehow, i didn't want to wait for it to end.
Since i had already seen the one earlier.
In that way i left, with the image of the beauty always.

As i jogged back, i realise that the french are not stuck-up at all.
It's all just a different culture.
They may be Rude, Prejudiced, Racist... whatever..
but it's all entirely up to yourself to let them be that.
Since you can't change the way they are, you can only change yourself.
And the world changes with you.
It's really a world without strangers, but it's all up to you.

Today, i am glad to re-learn many of life's little lessons.
Somehow the world resonates with whatever outlook you decide to take.
And it can only get better. =)
