Apr 21, 2011 18:05

A week or two ago, I made chocolates! And promised Sciatrix I would take pictures of the process and post about it afterwards since she couldn't be there. SO.

(apologies for bad image quality, I used my phone.)

picspam, description, tl;dr instructions under cut )

Also if you skulk rounf kitchen/discount places you can sometimes find electric chocolate melting pots for very little money, and they make tempering soooooo much easier. Mine was £10 from TJ Hughes. I think I need choc/allspice coated apples in my life.

Ooh. I did not know that! I may need to look into this! Some research says they're not actually meant for tempering, just melting (I am actually finding electric chocolate tempering equipment but it costs three hundred pounds what is this), but you can temper it more easily anyway or something.

And choc/allspice coated apples was an experiment that will need to be repeated...

Yeah, mine's a "chocolate melting pot" on the box, but it has the temperatures marked on the side so tempering is only slightly faffy rather than completely fussy, also it came with twelve moulds (cheap see through plastic ones, not nice silicone ones, but still), a spoon with a little spout on it for drawing patterns, and a grille. I'm now wondering if there's some sort of tax on "chocolate making" equipment that doesn't exist on "chocolate melting" equipment because holyshit £300 is a lot of money and why would mine be labelled as 'melting' equipment when it's so obviously geared to making them at home... curioser and curioser.

Chocolates aren't really my thing, but that is a huge amount of work, so I am impressed. :)

As someone who's lived today on a pot of soup made from a box yesterday, I truly fangirl your ability to produce tasty tasties. (Also, mmmm chocolate and apples.)
