fannish history etc etc

Okay, so is it wrong of me to be annoyed when people don't realise the history of
asexual_fandom? I've now for the second time seen someone claim it's a consequence of asexuality in Sherlock fandom - this time by saying the community is "fairly new" (well, if you call almost a year old new...) and "heavily Sherlock-focussed" (whiiich would be why I have to scroll past ten posts to get to a Sherlock-centric post, yeah? A quarter of the posts in the last two months were about Sherlock, which is probably more than for any other fandom but is not exactly what I'd call "heavily focussed".)

It seems like a minor thing, but... it feels like it's erasing the history of asexuality in fandom. Because actually,
asexual_fandom happened when a group of asexual fans who were pissed off at being constantly erased got together (and it was a pretty amazing experience! speaking as, you know, someone who was there). Actually there have been asexuals in fandom for a while and asexuals talking about asexuality in fandom for a while now, and in fact I kind of hold that the way asexuality gets treated in Sherlock fandom couldn't exist without some of what went before. This isn't the first time I've heard people talk about it like Sherlock somehow brought asexuality into fandom and although it's undeniable the amount of asexual *fic* shot up massively with Sherlock fandom, we were here before already. I have links if you don't believe me.

*grumps*

Am contemplating dropping a comment on the post to point this out but because it's a very minor aside in a long post about Sherlock asexy fic and I don't particularly want to talk about the rest of it I'll probably end up coming off as irrational.

ETA: okay, noticed something else that makes me >(.

One of the other things that annoyed me was that the post - albeit by an asexual author - seemed to focus on sexual fans. Hey look, sexual people write Sherlock! Sexual people write ace fic respectfully, isn't that amazing? And I'm not that familiar with Sherlock fandom (am into it but not so familiar with the people) but I know that there are ace people there. How do you know that it's not asexual people writing ace fic? But like I said, I don't know how much of the ace fic is written by ace people so I didn't much want to poke at that.

However, the author actually links instances where they go omg look, people are doing the research, people are talking about it respectfully! One of those instances - I know the person who's asking the question.

She's asexual.

You know, even if you're asexual yourself, erasing asexual people? Not okay.
