went to switzerland and germany last week for the 5 day weekend. my friend ted met up with us there and hung out for the 5 days. after missing 2 trains to get there on wednesday we finally made it to our hostel.
a few of us went to hooter's since it was the only thing open in town and on our way, we saw these cows just hanging out on the grass.
the next morning we had planned to go paragliding off the mountains, but because of the bad weather, it got cancelled. i was bummed. but here's us in front of our hostel.
so we walked around the cute town and jaclyn and i bought these ridiculous hats
cuz it was so damn cold (the only reason i look huge in this picture is because i'm wearing about 5 layers on top and 2 layers on the bottom, i swear). got yummy swiss hot chocolate
and found chocolate jesuses
and pretty views.
had mexican food!!!!
we were so excited. ended up renting these go-kart type cars
to go drive up the mountain. i didn't realize how much i missed driving until i actually got on the road.
the drive was beautiful/breathtaking.
saw some sheep
and some waterfalls
and a really huge cow.
got out of our cars and walked around a bit.
and here's me wearing my ridiculous hat with my roommate on a romantic bench.
and an awesome bridge.
left interlaken that evening and took the train to lucerne.
couldn't go paragliding in lucerne either because of bad weather once again. it just wasn't meant to be, i suppose. lucerne is pretty as well
and there are lots of swans that hang out in the lake and outside.
this swan was asking for it. not a lot to do in lucerne except shop, but we did go to this one church
and saw some big pretzels.
took a step train ride up mt. pilatus
look at how touristy we all are.
got to the top and this was our view.
group picture.
walked through this cave
and got some more pretty views.
as you can see, i was excited.
then we went out that night and fed some swans.
oh yeah, and switzerland has the best souvenirs and the nicest people ever. i love switzerland!
took a 6 hour train ride to munich, germany the next day. phuong and christine left us to go back to italy. got there that evening and set out to look for the infamous hofbrauhaus, a hotspot for both locals and tourists, known for their gigantic beers and as the place that held the first nazi meeting. the station was empty and creepy
and we were lost and confused for a bit
but we eventually found it.
walked in to this
and long tables filled with people swaying back and forth, with their beers in hand, singing along (i was too busy taking movie clips to get any pictures). we ended up having to sit outside and miss out on the music, but we made the most of it.
too bad i don't eat meat cuz i missed out on this (haha)
but good thing i eat pretzels.
and before we left there was a little bit of this.
then on the metro home, we saw some people dressed up a day early for halloween.
the next day was rainy and cold, perfect weather for going to dachau, the concentration camp in munich.
we took an audio tour and within 10 minutes, all split up from each other for the next 2.5 hours. i was so intrigued with the place, i could've spent the entire day there.
the most intriguing part for me was seeing the mock-showers they had that was actually a gas chamber designed for mass killings.
sigh. it was really depressing, but at the same time i was really glad i was able to go.
walked around munich some more
but there wasn't much to do because it was a sunday. however, ted and i were able to catch this clock ring
and see the little statues move around. went back to hofbrauhaus for dinner again. got a table inside this time
but no gigantic beer for me that night. it was our last night in germany and of our 5 day weekend.
