I went to a Teeny Tiny renaissance faire being held at the Champlain Valley Exposition grounds today. It was about 2 rows of big tents with merchants, 2 stages mostly with the same 3 shows swapping back and forth with some random "plot" events thrown in set up in a grassy field. Now for those of you who've been to "real" faire's, you know that this is pretty slim as far as Environment goes. But even with this limited setup, I managed to find people who are friends of friends and a music group that was short a female singer (their lead) and welcomed me to join the group for the day. I got to stand on stage and sing the old standbys (Bedlam Boys, Health to the Company, Black Velvet Band, Ault Lang Syne, etc.) and play my Bodhrain for both the singing performances and for the Country dances that captured random passersby. It had all the required elements and it brought home that I do miss working faires. I don't really want to go back to committeing 10-14 weekends in a row to it...but I"d at least like to be on a first name basis with some of the performers and boothies.
Enough on the nostalga train...back to sewing!
