I find myself again at SHDH, too exhausted to actually work on anything useful.
Yesterday, David and I drove down to San Jose, ate dinner at Khahn's and went to see Jarhead with Pavel. We got back at something like 1am to get up again at 8am to drive to San Francisco.
We spent much of the day at a grad student informational day for SF Academy of Arts University; I signed up as a potential Illustration major, and I think I am going to go there. I am very impressed with the programs, curriculum offered, and just how they build students' skills for their fields (to a much greater extent than Ai ever could). I almost wish I'd decided to go there for my BFA because I probably would have ended up not needing to get a MFA to do anything useful with my life and education.
Anyway...We went to the first half of this stuff where we were welcomed by the Dean of students, and then went to meet with the head of our respective departments. The head of illustration was a really interesting and funny guy; he had some neat stories and a load of experience in the field; however, with how he said classes are set up for the graduate program (they are all taught by industry professionals, so if you have head drawing for fall semester, you meet with the class and your instructor on one day for 6 to 8 hours of lecture, critique and studio time) I will probably end up having an assload of student loans and working at most some part time job downtown.
So we finished up with the head of illustration, then I talked to an admissions counselor for a while, and she informed me that I didn't have to take the GREs, and that it is probably very possible for me to not have to work while I am in school for my MFA because they have really good Financial Aid, plus the school has something like 10 student-run galleries around town to display and sell students' work for a very small commission. After this, we had about an hour and some change before the facility tours began, so we decided to get some lunch, but first we went to the car to drop off some accumulated materials as well as some things we ended up not needing (such as hats and jackets as it was very mild during the day today).
When we were going to exit the parking garage, I noted there was a gallon jug of what looked like apple juice sitting on one of the walls overlooking the street. Pavel said something to the effect that it was probably pee or something, but upon closer observation, I saw that it was a new, sealed container (it had not been there when we left the garage initially; at least we didn't see it then). Pavel then concluded that someone had probably left it there when they were packing groceries into their vehicle.
So we took it, and we put it in the trunk.
Now it is at SHDH, and people are drinking it.
DRINKING THE FOUND CIDER.
Also, we went to a neat store that had piratey things. I was very tempted to buy a feather-quill pen, but I figure I have nibs much like the ones they had on the quills, so I could probably construct one myself with a general amount of ease: they were not feather quills where the nib was carved into the feather in the traditional way, but instead there was a metal tip affixed to the end of a quill that had its tip cut off to hold ink. There were a lot of neat drawers full of interesting treasures, not to mention doubloons, puffy shirts, eye patches and hand-hooks (and scrub pads made from real "pirate beard hair").
They also had a really neat fish tank that had a cute puffer fish and a whole write up on the things that can make the puffer fish puff.
I need to find a couch to sleep on for a couple hours so I can finish my stupid website for class.
