*snorts* Poor Tim... I hope he manages to contain the 'this can't be happening *again*' response enough that he doesn't have to explain to Gibbs that he isn't freaking out because he has a problem with it! Explaining fanfic to Gibbs? That should be fun!

Ok, I have to ask... what the heck is that thing? Some kind of weird gargoyle?

Hee! Gibbs and fanfic! Oh the horrors! I think McGee will spend the rest of the night trolling the internet for Tibbs/Tommy stories. ;-)

And we never figured out what the heck that thing was. It hung in the archway to the old city and I walked under it all the time. Here's the archway and the 2nd one is the steps to the archway:

Apparently it's a mummified shark that was mistaken for a mermaid in the 13th century and hung up in the gate to protect the town from evil and demons. The actual mummified shark has been moved to a museum to preserve it and has been replaced by a stone replica in the gateway.

I love google!

LOL

Now why didn't I think of that!

Amazing what the internet contains....

Yeah, it's a fine balance explaining to students that they really don't need to email me to find out what century Thomas Hobbes lived in... but that they shouldn't rely on wikipedia as the major source for their papers!

As I told my teen, use Wiki as a starting point if you know nothing, but don't rely on the articles, look at their sources and judge *them*.

Sound advice.

That's what I tend to do if looking into something I know nothing about. I get a gist of it on Wiki and then move on from there.

Huh... I just learned there's a "Shrew's Fiddle" on that wall too... used to punish adulterous women.

Yep... and if you google *that* to find a photo of one, you'll find a couple of dungeon supply shops willing to sell you a modern replica... I was rather amused by the idea that they are now being marketed *for* the sorts of behaviour that would land you in one, originally *ggg*

Hee!

:-)

That is very, very true for a lot of those old punishment/torture devices. :-)
